Definitely a very impressive piece of design and engineering, but a lot of guys including myself, just found it too big. However, if you could get over the size issue, there are certainly a lot of black dial pre- owned ones out there at great prices!

I see your point but I bought one in 2008, still have it and love it. It is not a reference that I can see as your one and only but in a collection it is a must have! Don't have the Blue dial but am considering it.

you have to see it in person to appreciate it. keep up the complaining guys, maybe Rolex will discontinue it and the D-Dial owners will be even happier then!

Yes I agree. They are as rare as hens teeth at ADs in Singapore, even more so than the steel Daytona.

And I believe that like the Daytona they sell at a premium to the MRSP, which for me is a huge turn-off, even if I really like the watch.

I have just been able to secure a brand new one. I got it for retail (£8250 here in the UK) and I collect it in 10 days time. My local AD has 16 people on a waiting list for this piece and an approx 12 month waiting time. It is proving to be very popular here and my AD (in Aberdeen) has only had 4 of them in since their launch and I was lucky to source one from an AD in Edinburgh yesterday.

I have never seen the watch in the flesh and I have never owned a DSSD before (albeit I have tried on a couple) but I simply love the images which I have seen of the Deepsea blue.

I think I was lucky to avoid the waiting list here in the UK and luckier still to get it for the price as there are used ones here in the UK going for £9k.

The poor exchange rate to the dollar was an inhibiting factor which prevented me using one of the many trusted sellers on this great site to source one from the US.

I look forward to posting some pics in a couple of weeks time.

£8250; is that before VAT?

£7891 is the tax in, out the door price in Alberta (msrp of $14,200+5%tax=$14910 = £7891 today).

I work out of Aberdeen but live in Alberta. I've been rotating there 3 weeks on and 3 off since 1996.
I'm offshore right now : )

£8250 is the UK price for a new one, inclusive of all taxes.

I am also on rotation with BP in Iraq and got back to Aberdeen on Thursday evening. It's good to feel the cold again

I hope your not waiting too long. I spent some time on the phone yesterday morning and basically called every Rolex AD until I found one. I was surprised for it to be Edinburgh and was anticipating having to travel a bit further south.

I'm betting that it will be a limited model. I'm not saying a premium over trusted dealer dssd black is warranted but I do believe this is a limited run. Rolex will make it look like a limited when in reality it is a sub set of a watch that already is too big for great many Rolex buyers.

I was in one this weekend and they were trying to tell me that the deepsea black was a limited model as well.

Trying to hold price no doubt. Zero chance of buying black from AD when you can get one from trusted dealer for 3000 less.

3000 less than AD? I seriously doubt BNIB, respectfully. Better REALLY know your source at that price.

I see many legit used models between $8.5k-$9k, but that's used?

I don't understand all the debate about whether something is worth an amount or not. If you like it enough to buy it at whatever that price may be, then it's worth it to you. Surely that's ok?

In the UK I could have sourced a BNIB black dial for GBP 1500 to 2000 below list without difficulty, which is over USD 3000 off at the top end.

In the end I paid list for a D-Blue, which is about GBP 1000 below what the grey market is charging, so felt like a bargain on a comparative basis (even though obviously it wasn't).

Of course it's ok. However there's a large number of people that want something for nothing and then want to flip it for way more than it's worth. About the same as the difference between a white 1680 and a red. Same watch. At least with the D-Blue you get a whole dial.

Not at an AD. They won't discount watch unless u have a relationship with buying history.

The 3000 is indeed used but when trusted dealers say excellent my experience is the watch is very close to new. But yes it is used.

No it is grey market dealers sourcing from Italy (usually cheapest for BNIB in Europe). PM me if you want details.

A: I think it has carved its own niche out amongst the modern Rolex models. The owners seem to love it and you don't hear much about flipping them.

B: The fact that the specialty dial is around 3k more will limit its audience appeal to the masses.

I have a D-Dial in my safe - new, unworn, still stickered...had been planning on flipping it but will be wearing it as soon as summer ends.
