I only say this because I thought the watch was a joke from pix...then wore one and fell in love. I had thought a ss watch with rubber strap for $36k??? And it's so bland and boring...but I love mine and wear it all the time!!!
I felt the same way when I saw it in pics. Tried it on at my AD and it is so much better in person.

Thierry Stern has worn the 5164 while traveling. I have not seen him wear a 5712 though.

Of the choices I will get the 5712.
I would suggest to buy a 5711 and a BLNR! I did it and couldnt be happier.

Well I prefer the 5711 over the 5712, but its a good option nonetheless

5712 (or 5711).

Because:
- Dial colour/design
- Comfort

They are both great! I would be equally happy with either... But still want the other...

Tough call....can certainly have both in a collection...

5164 for me, like the dial layout and the thickness is correct.

Exactly my thoughts! I thought going into the AD that it was gonna be a 67, and made my decision on the 64 after comparing them on the wrist.

Had a 5712-1A and saw a 5164, one is an incredible iconic design watch from the 70's, and the other is a very cool watch, but it's not a Nautilus, and IMO the coolest one of the bunch, for me you can't even compare them, the 5712 is a clear winner

I wore one, nicer than on pics, but didn't fall at all in love with it, for some reason I prefer the Aquanauts, both models, RG rather than SS, which is strange as on other models I will most of the time choose SS, but on these the RG appeals the most to me for some reason, but even RG I can't put them before a 5711/5712, but at the same time I love full SS watches and these are my all time favorites, so I guess it's just a tastes question, nothing more, and god if we don't love the same things...

This should be an easy one, if you need the travel time complication 5164; otherwise 5712.

I don't own any but I take 5712 in a heartbeat.

The blue dial and Micro rotor are to die for.

Other plus factors for me are the moon phase, PR and the thinness of the watch.

Love both of these, but as I have a RG Nautilus I'd go for the 5164.

The 5164 would be my pick. Not an owner of either reference, but I have tried both on. The 5164 checks all the boxes for me.

After finally seeing the 5712 in person yesterday, I would give it the edge.
But really I want them both!!
One thing I have noticed (because I am doing a lot of searching and shopping for both) is there are less 5712s in the resale market and the 5712 seems to hold its value better. 5164s take a bigger hit if you resell.
