I guess in terms of what's big and what's small it all depends on the size of the wrist. A Sub or GMT on an 8' wrist probably looks about the same as a DJ on a 7" wrist.

The 36 mm fits very well on me. As I said previously, the size of a watch and how it looks is completely relative to your individual wrist size.

By the time of your 65th birthday you might as well find out about the upcoming DJ40 at Basel 2016. Who knows!

I do agree with you that the DJII is slightly out of proportion. A 39\40mm version would be great and I'd definitely be in line to get one! One more thing that bothers me a bit with the DJII is the Rolex logo - not the crown but the letters - is way too small, compared to the Explorer. I like the fact that I see the large "Rolex" when I look at my watch every time. I know I know, first world problems but it does bother me!

I'll definitely keep close tabs on the rumor mill for Basel 2016 to see what's being offered. A 39/40mm DJ would be interesting.
I see what you mean about the Rolex wording on those two watches. The wording is smaller on the DJII, but the "crown" is larger.

I went to the AD yesterday and spent a very pleasant hour trying on watches and talking to my favorite salesperson Francisco. As many times as I've been there he is always pleasant and informative and very low key, never pressuring me to buy.
That being said, my goal was to try on the DJ and DJII's again and to attempt to finalize my choice for my first Rolex. The first pic is the DJ on jubilee and the second is the DJII.

I think they both look great on the wrist and I'm seriously leaning toward the DJ.

I forgot to mention that when I tried on the DJ I noticed the red date wheel. When I questioned the salesman about it he told me that the date alternated between red and black which was something that I had never heard before. I just assumed that all of the dates would display in red.

Your first choice is a good one. I have been wearing a 36 mm Datejust for 15 years now and love it and my wrist is 7 1/4 inches,

Something else I just realized is that the DJ has thinner stick markers which I also prefer over the DJII. As the pics illustrate, I really can get away with either one.

The DJ in your first picture is elegant and classic. No mistake with that watch. Congrats in advance on your 2016 incoming!

I was never a fan of the Explorer until my buddy bought the 39mm model. Seeing it in the flesh and handling it really changed my perspective. Plus, after wearing a Daytona for so long, needing the date on a watch is not a prerequisite to me anymore.

I've Come Full Circle

The datejust to me is very subtle? But like you said, it can be used to "dress it up."
