Just read the man on the moon article posted above.
It got me thinking!!!! Maybe just maybe my BLRO that's on my wrist is not real at all AND is not made of ceramic as Rolex claims! Maybe is plastic colored by a sharpie. Wow. The controversy. |

Love both the speedy and the Daytona. Both rich in history and pedigree, not to mention performance.
But, in the end, you don't wear any of that...there is no comparison how they feel on the wrist. So my vote goes to the Daytona. |

I find the Speedmaster crown too small for a manual wind watch.
So my Daytona wins this one.

24hrs into the post/poll and it is I guess coming to an end. The gap is at its biggest so far and we appear to perhaps have a clear albeit close winner. In posting on a Rolex forum that some suggested may be biased the result seems to be cut and dried and perhaps a surprise to some.
The Speedy owners have for the most part given justification, and with the exception of some comments on the movements from Padi the only other feedback and reasoning for the the Daytona appears to be because it's a Rolex... Barring a last minute rush to vote it seems the Speedy is the Ultimate Sports Chrono when considering History (if the moon landing was real ), value, movement, value retention and Aesthetics. I expected the others to fair a little better though with date and other such trinkets they clearly weren't deemed to be Chrono's in a purist sense so it's turned into a Rolex V Omega match Any last votes? |

Own both
Daytona is a tank but a bit inpractical with its dial layout Speedy is the better tool watch of the two |

Cal 861 movement.NASA bought a large quantity of Speedmasters in he 60s,and in 1966 Omega added the word Professional to the speedy. It has been said that Neil Armstrong, had a problem with his watch, and did not wear one on the moons surface.Only Buzz and Armstrong are the only people to say what the first watch on the moon was. IMO it was most likely a speedy with the Cal 321,there were other readings that a Waltham and a Rolex GMT were used as a back up.But everything I have read my only conclusion is that the Omerga Speedmaster had the Cal 321 movement on the lunar landing based on the Lemania 27CHRO-C12.And Jack Swigert's wore a Rolex GMT-Master in the main lunar orbitship.IMO a pre 1968 model ST 145.012 speedy 321 movement was worn by Aldrin and the same model worn by Sheppard was the first Speedy on the moon . Because of the time line, Omega switched late 1968 to the Cal 861,so there would not have been enough time for these new 861 watches to tested by Nasa. But I have read that it is possible that a Waltham was on the moon on the same mission.IMO it is possibility that a Cal 861 Speedy did get aboard in the 1970-1972 timeframe.Yes I believe it was Aldrin's speedmaster was the first on the lunar surface. And its logical that he could have worn the same watch he had issued for the Gemini X11. IMO possibly a 1966 speedy when they first put professional on dial REF ST105012. Perhaps the later 1968 ST 145.012 model was left in the ship as a back up timer for computer.

For me I will go with Daytona but Speedy certainly a fine watch as well. Of course there are higher end chrono's like Patek 5070 and Lange Dato but those also come with much higher price tags. So dollar for dollar tough to beat Daytona or Speedmaster.

It's only a possible theory...I don't know for sure if man has been on the moon or not as you don't....but if not, the whole Omega Speedmaster moon watch heritage goes down the pan.

Calling Oliver Stone! Calling Oliver Stone!
If we didn't put a man on the moon then it's clear neither Omega or Rolex actually exist!

Marketing vs Substance
The Daytona is a triumph of marketing over substance. It was worn by a movie star and was renamed after a racetrack, but so what? I've not read one post here that lays out why the Daytona is superior, other than a piece of tortology that says "because it's a Rolex" which is irrelevant to the original question. The Speedmaster was instrumental in space travel with enough documentation to prove its worth. Even if you wear a tinfoil hat that much is indisputable.
