The the AD was well within their rights to have declined the request, but instead was willing to assist, an act that can be considered noble when talking about ADs.

This post was less a swipe at my AD as I consider them to be the best Rolex AD I have ever dealt with, and I have dealt with many over the years. It was more me looking to stimulate conversation regarding the practices and culture that appears to have permeated the Rolex dealership network in the UK. I visit many Rolex ADs in the UK and they just seem to exude an unnecessary air of arrogance, unlike their counterparts on mainland Europe or the US.

Nope, no option to edit my original post. I think the 'edit' option may have timed out or something.

Valid point, but the dears hip is still looking down, rather than up!

I'm going to set up a thread where forum members can name the AD, sales person & leave an honest but brief description of the indiscretion.
This will only work if we are absolutely HONEST.
Perhaps a moderator could ok this and make it a sticky.
Regards

HD used to have similar constraints when there was a seller's market. They added capacity and it all tanked. Perhaps Rolex is wiser. They could add capacity but no telling what that would do to their market.

Given the example you have presented I think we all know deep down what would happen.
Rolex will be s**t fighting it out with all the rest of them for market share.
Maintaining the status quo helps to give Rolex some sort of control over their market. It's an enviable position to be in for any mass producer of high end consumer items.
Combine this with a company structure that's totally unique and you have a clear winner.

Interesting story. I mentioned in another thread that a local AD here in OC didn't display a BLNR but when I asked she brought one out from the back. She said it was for 'good customers only' however I've never purchased there before. Perhaps 'good customer' just means local potentially returning customer. The reason I mention this, the UK situation probably started with ADs holding steel sport watches for local customers so every visiting Tom Dick and Harry didn't run them completely out of stock with their.

The AD's are peeing into the wind. When I wanted a new Sub C date i went global and found a dealer offering 10% discount and did it that way. The dealer was the largest Rolex AD in one of the largest cities in Europe. In 14 months when I'm ready for my next new Rolex I'll be doing exactly the same with a Daytona C or similar.

As an AD in the US, the Rolex policy is: If the customer is in the store you may sell them, regardless of where they are from. They don't want you selling via a phone call unless it is an existing customer, and no selling on the internet, and no transshipping. They want the buyer in the store, so that you can do a proper presentation and answer any questions the client may have. Rolex is going to have a good supply of the Sea-Dweller 43 unlike the Daytona. The UK sales person is blowing smoke.

Are you sure? I visited a few ADs out of state, while they don't have SD43 available, they would be glad to take my phone number and call me once they have they watch and I can pay over the phone and ship it to me.

If I were the OP I would be less concerned about the AD "reporting" the other shop for selling to a non-local (excellent League of Gentlemen meme by the way) and more concerned about the AD reporting me to HMRC for importing high value jewellery without paying duty/import taxes.

I know the OP said they think this AD is decent, but their behaviour (and that of many other UK ADs at the moment) means I wouldn't be surprised if they did tip off customs.

That is, if it's a true story
