[QUOTE=JohnEaton;824070]BASH, BASH, BASH...

Conform, conform, conform...

You guys sound like a bunch of "Harley only riders" talking about any other motorcycle, or maybe the guy who decided to not wear black and blend with the crowd. Be glad there is a fellow rider.

The DSSD may not be your cup of tea, but why bash so much? Until this election is over we are at least somewhat capitalist and still have some freedom. Vote with your wallet... If you like it and can afford it buy it. If you don't like it don't buy it.

Don't bash the DSSD, I haven't read any DSSD owners calling your watch SH1T !!

Amen, John! (except for bashing Yacht Masters, which I have no problem with) ;)

Okay, I just went to my AD and looked at one 15 minutes ago. They had it in the back, but it hasn't sold yet - apparently the 3rd they've had. They offered it to me. I examined it closely and tried it on.

It IS impressive and well made. The ring inscription is not as bad as photos show, and the rehaut engraving is almost impossible to see due to the curved crystal. I like the ceramic bezel insert a lot and loved the bracelet and clasp.

HOWEVER, it looks absurd on my wrist and cannot be worn with a suit. My Expy2 is great on with a suit and the Submariner is also fine, but I would/could never wear it with dress attire, something I like to be able to do with my watches.

They guy they were holding it for also passed because of its size. I think it does have a place in the lineup for folks who normally look at big Breitlings and Panerai to consider Rolex, but it's not for me, especially at close to $10k.

It goes without saying that it is BETTER than the sub.

P.S. the SD 4000 is a beautiful watch.
By just fitting a parachrom hairsping dont make it a better movement its still a 3135.And afraid 85% of all so called diving watches today only see water like the local swimming pool or if they are lucky a shower.I am waiting for the first post to ask if its safe to wear there Deepsea in the shower judging by some of the posts we get on forum.

first time i saw a pic of the dssd i thought i had died and gone to heaven.havent seen one in real life yet but surprised at emotions that it arouses!to me it just seems the price being asked for is way too steep, honestly i would rather invest in a daytona if had that much to spend.not even on my wish list.for an armchair deep see diver like me the planet ocean will suffice...but boy it does feel bloody heavy after a year..weird looking to get a rubber strap now. i digress...really dont think its going to be as iconic as the sub, lacks the elegence and robustness .may change my mind if i ever get to try one

To each his own. I have a Deepsea and love it, but understand that others may not for whatever reason. You know what they say about opinions, everybody has one.

I say it's fair game. We are here to discuss Rolex watches. I seem to remember most of the folks here knocking the YM II with little regard for those who had invested $30K.

i don't know what you guys are talking about. the deep sea is a watch i need very very much, i want to make sure my watch works no matter what happens to it. and the deep sea is the only watch that if i accidentally drop into the marianas trench i can safely recoup without damage by just paying a small fee for someone with a sea research submarine to get for me. that is peace of mind. and if the other rolexes cant to that i would loose too much sleep. i can't have that

I'm sure that it is still selling, but chances are that the supply has caught up with the demand. Sure economics will cause a downturn is luxury sales, but if you think things are too pricey now, just wait!

Inflation, that is now only nascent, combined with currency devaluation that will ensue as a result of the printing presses operating without justification, we are barely seeing the tip of the iceberg.

To be fair, this AD isn't moving GMTIIc's either. I always see two of them there. You brits could fly into Dulles, rent a car, buy a IIc, spend a few days sightseeing and return for less than a IIc in Britain.

I find it odd that one example, posted by one member, about one DSSD, at one AD will PROVE to so many that the watch is "not selling well". Wow...I sure wish my college statistics classes were so easy to comprehend. I've been calling ADs around SoCal for months just trying to get a look at one and sure enough every time I get word a store has one, by the time I call it has been sold.

But, thankfully I was able to get a look at one in the flesh the other day (not at a store for sale of course) and can finally say for certainty that I want one & will purchase. My biggest complaint is not the size (it actually didn't seem that big to me), nor the weight (again, wasn't as heavy as I thought it would be), but the size of the bracelet at the clasp. Rolex definitely should have sucked it up & made a wider bracelet & clasp. The clasp operation is AMAZING...truly a work of art...but due to the size of the watch head, it was almost an optical illusion w/ regard to the narrow bracelet in that I almost thought at the clasp the bracelet was actually thinner than a standard Sub. I wasn't convinced until I put my Sub next to it and realized they were the same size. But, I can live with it as the bezel & domed crystal are just too sweet & I can't stop thinking about owing one! Cheers.

My guess is that some - not all - critics might well quietly buy the SDDS for themselves if the price falls sharply enough.

Moby33,

Glad you got to try one on finally. You will not regret buying one. Mine is running -0.5 secs per day

I think a wider bracelet and clasp would look better but probably not as comfortable. I would also like a chunky rubber strap for it.
