I have a full gym in my basement and never thought to wear a watch while I'm working out. It would definitely get in my way and would probably cut into my wrist.
I do a lot of cross-training (cleans, burpees, weighted pull-ups etc.) so I need the mobility of my wrist.

I wear a GPS watch when I run (trail running - I am Spartan AROO!)

I can't imagine wearing a watch while at the gym. Maybe it's because I do crossfit and not traditional weights?

I just don't get this new need to baby watches. I wear my Platona to the gym and lift weights, etc. without a worry.

I spent 21 years in the Army and wore my Datejust every day, sometimes in hostile conditions, and never gave it a second thought. Would we not take our rifles into the field because we might ding them?

Maybe the internet has caused this over-concern over a freaken' watch. These are just mechanical items, made to be worn. Maybe oversensitive people should buy timexes or another cheap watch so they won't worry so much.

Rant over. Carry on.

You're a brave one. I have a G Shock specifically for any active encounters I do which include gym, hiking, running, etc.

I do not. However, I am one of those crazy crossfitters that everyone loves to talk about. Lots of olympic lifting and the only thing on my wrist would be wrist wraps. I don't have a problem with it though, just not practical for me.

Other threads on this same topic, but I feel that the watch is safer on my wrist than in the locker or in the car.

If I go to the gym from home, then the Rolex stays home and rests.

I wear my Tudor as its ceramic so if it clip it against dumbbell metalwork or catch it on pull down machines cables it wont cause any damage.

Would be worried the bracelet would interfere with pull ups.

I don't wear any watch when I work out, I can't stand the feeling of anything around my wrist. Besides there are clocks everywhere you look in our gym

I don't need a watch on my wrist at the gym. Besides the time on my phone, there are 16 or so big screen TV's with many broadcasting cable news and local news which all show the time. Who really needs to know what time it is at the gym anyways? especially if you are retired!

For a lot of us, it’s not about babying the watch. Putting the wearing of wrist straps to one side, if I’m lifting weights of any substance the wearing of a steel bracelet is supremely uncomfortable. When I have a significant weight above my head, I’d rather focus on the matter at hand and not get irritated by a digging bracelet

The underlying tension in these threads is always the same:

My watch/my rules vs. Just...why tho?

It's relevant on both sides. I get it. I really do. If you need a watch, wear it. If it gets in the way, it gets in the way. No need? No need. You just always wear watches? Golden. Why not? Why not. Too many accessories already? All are valid reasons for each decision to be made.

Unspoken rules of weight rooms tend to praise the less-is-more philosophy:

WHAT?! You use GLOVES?! You use MACHINES?! You use WEIGHTS?! I work out FOR REAL. I just move mountains and forests with pure brawn and chest hair. WHAT?! Is that a TOWEL?! In MY GYM, we just saved our sweat to shower with later. HEADPHONES?! We just listen to the weights clanging to hear our progress as MEN. RE-RACKING?!?!?!

Double edged sword of public exercise..If you have it, you're not using it right. If you don't have it, you're not doing it right. If you do it this way, it's still better this way. No one is going to win this battle.

I also get there is nothing a Rolex could do to actually improve a workout from a functional standpoint...Prerogative my friends, it's all yours.

Me? I don't work out... I might have to put clothes on.

And don't get me started on the steam room that will just destroy the gaskets and render it useless.
Rolex watches are meant to be tough, you can wear an Explorer to climb Everest but not to the gym????? Believe me these watches can handle a gym.

Been wearing my Rolex to the gym since I got into Rolex.the watches have hung in there on 500 lb bench days,700 lb deadlift days,225 lb curls days and light days as well.to anyone saying wearing a Rolex to the gym is dumb or wanting attention,it’s my watch and I wear it doing everything else so why not lifting too?Should I not wear a certain pair of sneakers?or drive a certain car to the gym?

Anyone know if wearing a Rolex long term in a sweaty/salty environment erodes the watch in any way? I would think even if you rinse it off afterwards its still being exposed to a corrosive material for a period of time.

I used to wear my stainless steel submariner (first rolex) everywhere, almost never took it off, including at the gym... got some scratches from dumbbells and cable handles etc, but didn't think twice about wearing it in the gym... however, it did annoy me on some lifts - pressed against my wrist, etc, and when wearing wrist straps was not comfortable either... so these days Im always watchless in the gym
