I said 12 to 15 million in Trace’s poll/thread on this, so not a million miles out.

15.5 + Plus buyers premium + tax. 17.752 is inclusive of buyers premium. Hammer price does not include buyers premium, during the auction the auctioneer commented that 15.5 will be less than 20 million all in taxes + buyers premium. NYC sales tax on 15.5 would be 1.35 which is less than the number Phillips specifies.

It was easy to watch it. Bobs Watches, which I follow on Instagram, had it live. It was pretty cool, and short and sweet

Just watched a reply on the Instagram. Wasn’t sure if it was tiffanys or the lady was named Tiffany. Wouldn’t be surprised though.

Didn't the proceeds go to charity? It seems that helps nudge people towards higher prices sometimes.

But really I think people just bought into the hype on this one. Just a giant stroke of marketing genius on the entire industry's part.

I'm more concerned with a 1016 going for 40k cause I was hoping to pick one up in the next few years lol.

Paul Newman Daytona sells for $ 15,500,000.00

Crazy. He was an actor, hardly Sir Edmund Hillary. The hype these days is a joke.

Well I was way off. I thought 7-9 million.

I'll have the 1518 all day over this but I digress. Without provenance what is this a 100k watch?

Really fun to watch and such an amazing piece of history!

Always wonder at these auctions now if the manufacture is creating a bidding war ala Patek. $20m all in is nothing for Rolex to pay for marketing and create huge demand in the vintage and secondary markets.

He was also an accomplished race driver, but I still agree. I wonder what Kanye's personal pair of sneakers will go for in 30 years?
