Given the fact that the linked website froze my Internet browser, I wouldn't give this news much credibility. What comes to my mind is "fake news".

The lesson here is, don't give your 21 year old a Rolex. If he bought it himself I bet he would have been a lot more careful with it.

Is it safe to shower with a stranger without your Rolex? No. No it isn't.

Tough lesson to learn
I blame TRF

All those paranoid posts about soap damaging seals, water vapor by-passing seals and of course not getting old Rolexs wet without a recent service and full pressure test probably casued him to take it off before showering

There have been about a half dozen stories of men bringing women home from clubs/bars in Manhattan and then having their Rolex watches stolen. This seems to be happening more often lately. Not sure why, but in recent months there seems have been a spike in similar stories to this one.

Such a mess. Pop gives 'important family history' to his obviously still-immature son? Too bad grandfather isn't around to take them both behind the woodshed; they need it.

The smart thing would be to make it known on the street that the lady *will* be found, and it *will* be a felony, but if the watch is returned there would be no charges and even a reward with no tricks and no questions asked. Honey before vinegar. But pop sounds like the kind of guy who just bellows people around. Money before family.

Expensive date. Hope he got busy with her in the shower before she took off with his watch. Bet you anything she said, meet me in bed in a couple minutes before running out with his watch. Insult to injury

Pathetic. She goes running into the night in her underwear with a watch which could be fake. As a former prosecutor, it never fails to surprise me the petty crimes people commit.

In three pages, you're the only one to have reported such a problem. Could the issue be on your end?

Dad gives his son a valuable family heirloom, and the kid turns right around and puts himself in a situation to get it stolen. Call me cynical, but I get the impression the dad didn't properly assess whether his son was responsible enough to handle the family jewel.

ETA: I see semi-ambivalent already made the same point.

I can't fault the kid on bringing the girl home. I can't fault the kid for taking his watch off while showering. I can fault the kid on not showering with the girl.

Reminds me of Elton John's song "You're So Static" from his album Caribou.

I've a constant ache in the morning light
It's on account of the night before
Some Park Lane lady in a shady bar
Took a fancy to the watch I wore

But I can still remember how she laughed at me
As I spun around and hit the bed
She said thank you honey, forget about the money
This pretty watch'll do instead

City living woman, you're so static
Matching your men with a hook and eye
If you're gonna spend the summer in New York City
Them women oh oh oh they're gonna slice your pie

Said you're so static, baby I've had it
Rolling in a yellow cab
Downtown hustlers trying to pull some muscle
If they catch you, oh oh oh it could turn out bad

It's a Show me what you want, I'll show you what I've got
I can show you a real good time
She's a friend indeed of a friend in need
But you'll be sorry when she leaves you crying

But I can still remember how she laughed at me
As I spun around and hit the bed
She said thank you honey, forget about the money
This pretty watch'll do instead

City living woman, you're so static
Matching your men with a hook and eye
If you're gonna spend the summer in New York City
Them women oh oh oh they're gonna slice your pie

Said you're so static, baby I've had it

Downtown hustlers trying to pull some muscle
If they catch you, oh oh oh it could turn out bad

This is not a surprise in the least.

Woman are more than capable of being criminals, so treat them with the same caution as everyone else, especially in SFL. This stuff is rampant down there. Thug and hoe life combined into a dangerous combo..

Again, I find it difficult to believe that the people criticizing the kid would have, especially at 21, locked up their valuables when bringing a woman home, unless perhaps you were paying her for her services.

This is a rare occurrence, and in a normal situation I can imagine the conversation a woman would be having with her friends if he locked his watch in a safe before showering: ‘I made the mistake of going home with some psycho who locked his valuables in a safe when he was taking a shower. Stay away from that guy.’
