I do, I combine it with cleaning my watch. Twice a month, once on the 15th and once on the last day of the month. It's two seconds slow a day, so it is working correct.

Same here

I periodically check mine. I don’t do it all the time, but I like seeing how they perform. Interestingly, my 5513 was my best timekeeper recently at +1 sec every 3 days. Since it is an older movement, I can regulate the time placing it in different positions overnight and keep it within +/- 5 sec all the time.

Now I don't bother so much as I don't always wear the same watch 2 or 3 days in succession.
By the time I get back to wearing one, it's usually stopped and needs re setting anyway.

I find it interesting that when I use Time. Is, they also give an error on the time displayed on the computer. That error varies dependent on with what, where, and when I check. At work on the same computer it varies. At home it varies, and on Time.Gov on my cell it doesn't give the network error. It brings into question exactly what reference is truly fool proof and valid.

On another subject, part way into this thread I started looking for independent approaches to track watch accuracy. The one I came across I got at a discount for about $60 shipped. I just purchased the gizmo from Frederique Constant Analytic which is a watch microphone which paired with either an iPhone or an Android will track accuracy with an App and store the data on the cloud for review by the owner. It allows for multiple watches to be tracked.

Maybe there is hope that I can actually track my watches which up to now has seemed hopeless. I added a youtube video earlier in the thread of the unit being used. There is a warning from the manufacturer that some watches with unusual mechanism might not work with it. This in particular references the Omega's Co-Axial mechanism. At any rate, I'll see how it works one it arrives and gets tried.

Here's a link to a review for the unit from ablogtowatch.

https://www.ablogtowatch.com/frederi...atch-accuracy/

My first Rolex was a +11secs when received. I sent it back to RSC for adjustment under warranty. It cost $75 for shipping. I think I'd have been better to live with the minute or so error weekly and saved my money. Back then I had two watches of value in rotation. The OP and the SMPBond. Adjusting once per week would have been plenty accurate for my needs but being a bit OCD I had to have it right. Now I don't see sending any watches anywhere unless there is a real problem.

I use the WatchTracker app on my iPhone. It's a great app because it saves your timing run data and produces graphs to help with analytics. The timing runs are an easy way to check the functioning of your watches. I also enjoy the awe of the mechanical engineering involved in making these watches so accurate.

Two of my watches are nearing the end of their warranty period in the next month or so, and I ended up doing a timing run on one watch and am just starting a timing run on the other watch. If the timing is dramatically off, I figure that I'll have it regulated if needed under warranty. Looking at the records for one of them, I haven't checked it in about 3 years, and it is now running about 1.5 seconds fast per day which is really quite remarkable from an engineering standpoint and obviously no regulation is needed. The other one I just started checking today hadn't been checked in about 2 years, so I am curious how it will run over the next couple of weeks or so.

I guess the take away is that I do test the timing of my watches to check on how they are functioning, but I probably don't do it all that frequently.

the real question should be to others bother to correct the date on the months with 30 days/month with 29 days. I am horrible about correcting the date

That in particular never bothers me. Very few months have 29 days (one out of 48 months). On all but 1 of 12 my newer watch takes care of it itself.

It was fun the first few times when I had just bought the watch. I don't do it as much any more.

Can I just simply download a stopwatch app and measure the time that way?

I use a little Timegrapher to establish a base line for each watch to see how accuracy changes over time. Also track results with WatchTracker. It's just part of the fun....

I'll check it occasionally. Maybe 2 or three times a month but I don't go out of my way to do it. Mine always runs +2.5 seconds each day. But who's counting :-)

I use time.is to check maybe once per week but I don’t keep a record. A second here or there does not matter (to me).

As I said I only did it on my first watch and I tracked it versus the NIST official time on time.gov. time.gov seems to be a better site for the actual time as it also corrects for error in the network transmission. I just let my watch run for a week, compared it to the site, and monitored it daily.

See post 63 for how I'm going now; the unit is due tomorrow. I'll see how it works.

Check out the iPhone app Twixt. It's pretty cool - it syncs up with an official time source and prompts you to take a picture of the dial of your watch. It records the time that the picture is taken, and then you overlay virtual hands over the picture, so the app knows the precise time on the watch. Then it compares the time that has elapsed on the watch since the last update, and the actual amount of time that has elapsed, to give you the deviation. Here’s a screenshot:

I use the Toolwatch app.: nice and simple,

My Daytona 116520 : +1 sec every 3 days
My GMT2 16710 : + 2 sec every week
My Sub 16610 : less than -1 sec a month

I just compared the time on this webpage with time.gov and time.is, all are pretty much identical.

i don't, i am either changing time zone twice a week, or rewind the watch because it s been sitting for 4 days..so i don't have to be within +/- 3 min.
but when i wear it a few days in a row...it seems to indicate the approximate time...good enough for me.

I think it's the mentality of thinking, since it's an expensive watch, it should have an accurate time. :)

100% I agree; What I want to know is what some will do with an extra couple of seconds of accuracy. Seems like a T in a T.

I do, with the WatchCheck app. Currently slightly unnerved that my Rolex that usually gains 1-2 sec per day is suddenly running at -6spd over the last couple of days. Have given it a hand wind, will see how it goes over the next day or so.

I set the time from time.gov when I put a watch on, and will generally check against the same website about once a week to see how it's running for as long as I wear it.
