DD40 platinum. More versatile due to the color. The heft, shine and brightness of the white metal makes it the ultimate Rolex, IMO.

As much as I might love the platinum piece, my (future) DD needs a fluted bezel, so yg for me, please.

but they are heavy. and the president bracelet can be a challenge to get the fit right. I would be more included to platona over the DD because of the ez link. But I would still choose the sub. Because anything that heavy, for me, would need to be pretty adjustable. just my .02$

DD or Sub, I always prefer white metals. White gold for me!

A few thoughts:
1) 20:1 watch trade. Wow! That's a record from my reading viewpoint. But I'd much rather have one great watch than (and I have no idea what OP is trading) 20 mediocre to pretty good watches. I would find that quite a simplifying relief 2) platinum as an everyday watch does not suck Having all your dough in one watch means you are enjoying your entire watch investment every day, rather than sitting 95% it of every day 3) I think a YG DD is a bit hard to pull off as your one and only, unless you are my father-in-law so I would seriously consider the lower profile white metals of WG or platinum 4) I love the WG sub, but really love the platinum DD you posted. If I were going 20:1, I'd want the one to be my all-time favorite, not a second choice (regardless of how nice), unless you plan on doing more of these expensive trade-ups 5) I might consider the WG/green dial DD mentioned earlier as a pretty cool, everyday wearable watch 6) Almost forgot: given bid/asked spreads, I would strongly consider selling some of your bigger value, easier to sell watches privately. Maybe generate better bucks on the easy stuff and trade in the less saleable stuff Good luck!

I must admit that I had a nice time with my visit. Received a complimentary diet coke, and got to know the home store for Long's here in the Boston area. It was hard to tell a difference in weight between the Pt DD and Pt Daytona. I would hope to walk away with a check as well as a watch if that is the route that works out. Thanks for all the insightful questions and inputs!!! |

Did you talk with Mike at Long's? He's a nice guy. Very friendly and knowledgeable. I visited him when he was working in the Framingham store. I always liked the Smurf or the blue face WG Pres. Good luck! |

I agree with Chiboy having 1 solid watch to admire and use everyday is in my mind also the best option do you can give it all your attention and not feel bad about locking in so much investment in something you won’t wear everyday! As much as I LOVE the WG Sub, love isn’t strong enough a word. For such a big consolidation 20-1 I would go PT.....enter Basel ‘19 Pt Sub/GMT. Sorted! Lol. Whatever you decide I’m sure you’ll enjoy the thrill of the consolidation! Can’t wait to hear what you decide!

HI Lee, as you will keep a few other special pieces, I would go for the PT DD all day long. I feel what you are feeling, I put a recent post up on this as well. Good luck and congrats. Keep us posted!

If I were super rich, a platinum DayDate with an ice blue dial would be in my collection.
I wouldn't get the white gold Sub because to me the Sub is a tool watch, and white gold is soft. I'd rather have the stainless.

I was dealing with their Estate team (John and Rick) who handle purchasing watches as well as their sales guy Radwan. All were seemingly stand-up gents.

You sold your 6 digit sub due to comfort issues, I only remember because you have mentioned it many times. Why would you think you would like the gold one more?

Everyone seems stand-up until you get their lowball, wholesale purchase offer.

Simply bc its a grail watch me for. This must be fun yet tough decision to make since you are only consider 1 watch from here on... Cheers to whatever you decide to swap for and keep us posted on your final decision. |

Drastic move, but even I consolidated to one holy grail piece. I say go for a Day Date. Either in platinum, YG, RG or WG. Whichever color metal and dial combo which truly sings to you. Good luck whatever you decide!

Absolutely. I'm certain which side their bread is buttered on. Without doubt!!! I had to come up with a number for the value of what I left at the shop. It was for insurance purposes and a back of the envelope type of number based on my replacement costs. I'll see what sort of fraction of that they offer. |

are you trading your blue dial sky dweller?
Personally, I would not trade any Rolex watch for the blue dial sky dweller. |

Daydate. One of the most beautiful dials out there, in my opinion.

SkyD Blue, Daytona C Black, and SeaD C are all in the trade. The SeaD is my favorite of the three.

Love that Plat DD with blue dial. Such a special watch. But I like Subs so would probably choose the WG LB Sub.
Just depends on your needs. Sport or sport/dress.

Hi Lee,
I’m fairly new to this so I’m not sure what to say about the dismantling of your years of collecting watches. One thing I am a bit familiar with is simplifying. And even though I watch and drool and dream over owning more, but am very content with the simplicity of just one watch. It stays on my wrist 24/7. It’s one less thing to worry about. I hope you figure out what you want. Submariner is my go to! I’m looking forward to seeing what you pick. |

If l had the stones to pull off a big deal like your working on I'd go for the DD 228206 and never look back. Best of luck to you whatever you decide. Maybe we'll all see a big incoming soon.

You could attractively price and sell your collection here and make a ton more than the AD will prolly offer, Seems that would be pretty cool and you might get a big trade offer for a gently used plat!
