I was so frustrated I bought a blue face IWC instead. Damn you Rolex.
I feel your pain and Rolex have gone too far with the latest "marketing". The pendulum has swung and I'm itching for something different, something not Rolex...not sure what!! I'd love a George Daniels, but I'd need to rob a bank to afford one of those.

You should maybe look into getting a Roger Smith. You’d still need to rob a bank though!

You say non-gold like it's a good thing.

I would put Rolexes holding value down to marketing, brand awareness and (for some models) speculation. Regarding other brands, I have already mentioned the new Seamaster is a very tempting proposition, and I struggle to see why a Sub costs double.

In terms of the attributes you list I would suggest JLC is at least the equal of Rolex at comparable prices.

Seems like something specific is missing from this thread...

So...here's an IWC with a blue dial.

Well done.

Rolex is damaging its brand terribly with this nonsense.

Maybe not with us, but they are loosing a great deal of goodwill from regular people that want to buy a good watch.

Rolex will resist , but will come to understand that selling direct, online, is the only way to get rid of the rotten AD/grey system.

Believe it or not, your desires do not accurately reflect the mass consumer demand.

Sounds like there were plenty of watches to purchase at the Boutique.

I still like my Mark XVIII Pilot watch which I bought 2.5 years ago. Still working perfectly fine & still in rotation.

In fact, I only bought my first two Rolex watches (114060, 126711CHNR) this year, after splurging on a Tudor BB Blue (2015), IWC Mark XVIII (2016), and Patek Nautilus 5711 (2017). Nothing wrong with an IWC in your stable :)

I will also echo the rest here in confirming that the SS Yachtmaster is actually not hard to get. I saw a few being displayed in ADs in recent weeks. Definitely not as hard as the other SS models (Sub, GMT, or Daytona) which the ADs will never display. I even saw a Two-Tone Sub and tried it before I bought the 126711CHNR last week.

Congratulations! IWC’s are great! Enjoy in great health. And by the way, if that is a watch you truly wanted, doesnt listen to all that noise. Quality is great. In watch collecting, not everything is about making a quick buck which appears to be the most important consideration these days! Long are the days of watch collecting for the true passion of watches it seems!

this is why we are in a bubble. it is a watch that you buy to enjoy. who cares about resale. it isnt a share of Apple. with posts like these, when prices start to come down, there is going to be a lot of supply.

I did the same, an I'm very happy. A SeaDweller was unavailable to try on anywhere.

The IWC is more accurate, has a longer power reserve, resists scratches (entirely ceramic). I also find it more appealing aesthetically. Rolex are impressive rather than attractive.

I wear it far more than any other watch including my Rolex.

WHO CARES! If your investing, watches are the worst place to do so! Buy a watch because you like the watch and what it offers you- not because you can turn a profit with it.

This line of thought really puts me off. Sorry everyone.

I am not sure I agree... I had several Pilots, both on straps and on bracelets. Their bracelets are superb, but their pilot straps are the best in the industry.

What is a muppet?

Kudos to you sir, that's a nice piece. What model?

My brother just bought an IWC "Big Pilot" Mk XVIII and he loves it. I took the opportunity to really scrutinize it and It's very impressive. It's been running non stop for a couple of months very accurately.

IWC make great products. Wear it in good health

Mark

Sorry for the delay, here is a pic of my shiny new blue face.

I am amazed at the polarised forum opinion on IWC watches! I couldn't give a hoot what it is worth in 15 years time (not much) as I will likely still be wearing it. I like the homage to an altimeter very much.

Not actual watch! Those images won't load for some reason. I think it's pretty. And less flash in parts of Vietnam.

Congrats on your IWC! I was in the boutique the other day and I have my eye on the 5007-05 and want to add a slow beat big pilot 5002 to my rotation again... miss that watch.

I've been thinking about a 5007 myself... Unless I can get a Rootbeer GMT or if a Pepsi GMT speaks to me first.

Congratulations! I did the same. Bought a Portuguesier. Great looking watch with a superb power reserve. I get more compliments on that than my 1675!
