WRUW Saturday 26th January
I rescued this one from a bag of random watch parts found at a flea market. It was missing a bezel, had no band/strap and wasn’t working. With a little tinkering and TLC it now runs like a top and makes a great weekend beater.

16610

After reading a review of a 14060, I had to have a Date version of this Sub, so this week I tracked down this 16610. What I especially like about the 16610 are the pre-2003 lug holes, a stamped bracelet clasp, and an aluminum bezel insert. These were all hallmarks of the original Sub from 1954. The drilled lugs especially speak to me, as I love to occasionally throw a different strap on, and of course, this makes that, a breeze. Nothing against the new ceramic bezel on the new Sub, but there is just something about the semi-matte finish on the aluminum bezel that pleases me. Maybe it’s the contrast between that semi-matte finish and the shiny crystal and dial that you don’t get with the shiny ceramic bezel. |
