Thank you for sharing this technical post!

I cant imagine that pivot wheels are new to watch movements.

-Why was pivot wheel not lubricated in the first place?

-Arent generally all moving components that are in a drive train lubricated?

Don't worry about it, if some issue does arise then just have it fixed under warranty It is a new movement and they can always have a few issues in the beginning.
Thank you for your reply
Mine has been keeping perfect time for almost two years so hopefully it is OK. Anyway, I have never had an issue with a Rolex that they have not solved under warranty.

Thanks Bas! These are the types of threads I wish we had more of on TRF, learning a little bit more about these incredible mechanical marvels.

The pivot was most likely not lubricated due to a production error. The seconds wheel was always quite prone to wear so I don't think this was intentional..

Yes in pretty much all mechanical watches the gear train is lubricated.

Well Bas is a pledge member and a Rolex technician.

Perhaps we need more of both to continue?

Thanks again Bas.

Why don’t Rolex carry out some form of recall if it’s a known problem?

My DJ41 is a late 2018 model - I hope I’m all good.

I guess the whole warranty cover for this issue depends on if it’s presents itself within the first 5 years of ownership.

I guess that’s dependent on the amount of time you wear it within that time.

I got mine 6 months ago but have only really worn it for the first time properly, today.
There's been plenty of problems with movements over the years, and not just at Rolex. But now these issues are widespread news because we have forums like this and places like Instagram where watchmakers and enthusiasts alike discuss all things Rolex.

There's also been an issue with early versions (pre DJ41) that the date didn't jump consistently, so there's a slightly different date wheel. We have to check which one is in the movement and update it if the movement has the older version.

Once you start making thousands and thousands of movements and they are being used in the real world you can always come across something that might not have been discovered during development.

And still, the 31 series and 22 series use a rotor axle, it is not uncommon for those to wear to shreds well within warranty period. And the 31×× has been in use since 1989...

No need to worry, it is not a 'russian roulette'.

Is there a manual/book that explains exactly how a 31.. or 32.. movement works?
We have an online system with all kinds of technical information. But this is for Rolex trained watchmakers only unfortunately.

Taking a look at the 3235

Thanks Bas for the great pics and explanation about the issue. I have a 126600 with caliber 3235 of early 2018.
I will monitor the timekeeping more closely now.
Great work you are doing!

Why do you think Rolex did not finish the balance bridge on the 3235 in Perlage like they did on the 3135 movement?

No idea, just a different aesthetic design. I definitely like the new circular brushed look.
