Yeah, but you don't really want to have a heightened situational awareness while on vacation.

I wore a 16750 to Baja once and it caught the eye of one of the local workers at my hotel and he told me I was nuts to wear that watch in Mexico....

This is seriously cracking me up the responses “why be worried”, “I took my timex” etc.

I can’t believe people spends 1000s on a vacation but are worried about wearing a watch. Why on earth would you go to a place where you have doubt to wear a watch.

Like I said know your surroundings and have commons sense and you will be fine.

Totally agree. They’ve been watching too many cartel movies.

A lot of other posters don't seem to take into consideration that it is more difficult to be aware of your surroundings in an unfamiliar environment.

A lot of offensive posts here. On topic I probably would travel with a patek.

FWIW chicago and Baltimore are just as dangerous.

These "should I take my Rolex to ........." threads are normally great for a laugh. I've been to Mexico 3 times, actually bought my first Rolex there at Ultrajewels in Cancun, about 12-13 years ago. That said, Mexico, even the Riviera Maya, isn't as safe as it used to be. If you must go to there for work, ok, but I wouldn't go there by choice.

I actually agree. Last summer, I went into a local town about 15min outside the resorts of Riviera Maya to score some authentic Mexican tacos. Never felt unsafe. On the flip side, there are a couple of US cities where I’ve had my head on a swivel.

All the 'its just as dangerous as Chicago and Baltimore!' posts are hilarious....because normal Americans dont flash watches in those terrible cities either - so that says nothing about CDMX.

If you are comparing Mexico City to Memphis, Baltimore, or etc....it's not a compliment.

Two types of people notice watches, and they DO notice them; watch enthusiasts and criminals.

I wonder how many that have replied here have actually been to CDMX.

I’ve been there three times in the past three years already. Assuming you’re staying in the touristy areas, and especially Polanco, you have nothing to be worried about.

The top 1% live and play in Polanco. Your Rolex will be just another in a sea of other submariners.

I am not Mexican or have any family from Mexico. Just total unbiased opinion from someone who’s been to the city multiple times over the years.

Like someone said here earlier, same question could be asked about LA. Would you wear your Rolex to Compton or Inglewood? What about Beverly Hills? They’re all in LA!!!

I think the issue is 95% of visitors stand out. The wealthy who live there speak Spanish and are known by local criminals and are left alone. They're also more aware of where to go and what to do.

I honestly feel more nervous in the US knowing our inane gun laws allow pretty much anyone to buy an assault weapon. I know the 2nd amendment...
I was a little shocked too, initially. Like you, I have travelled extensively, almost always wearing a Rolex. That said, times do change; and if someone has to ask the question, then they are clearly worried. However, to suggest that you are somehow safer in Mexico than you are in the US is a bit of a stretch.

I agree with this. Mexico has gotten more dangerous. There are even travel advisories now, since many Canadian tourists have been injured or killed.

Yes Mexico City is a rather large city as others have mentioned.

I was there 3 weeks ago. Primarily in the Roma neighborhood which was very nice. Did some traveling to the pyramids and other sections of th city roughly 30 min outside the heart of downtown.

Left my BLNR at home and travled with the Seamaster. I think I made a good choice.

I've hung out with the supposedly corrupt policia at a checkpoint while wearing a Sub. Never once did I feel unsafe. Those guys have it rough, though.

Just use common sense while out and about. Most people probably think the Rolex you're wearing is fake, anyway.

I was in Mexico City 6 months ago. Was always with work colleagues and we weren't out in the bars and clubs or walking the streets in the wee hours of the morning. We were dressed like business people with sports coats, etc and never felt uneasy. I think you have as much chance of being targeted in Mexico City as you do in any large metropolitan city. If you are worried or unsure, just leave it home so you aren't stressing over it while you are there. Safe travels.

It sounds to me that you live in a constant state of fear... I think it would be wise if you and your Rolex just stayed in Florida.

Try reading this thread next time you or anyone else posts one of these "Is it safe" threads. https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=668348

You don't have to be in a third world country for things to go wrong.
