Without details really cant tell how "great" of a deal you got.
Ok ill state the figures for you in AED which is my home currency

Hublot at home would have cost me 20k (a very good deal and well below SRP)

Bought hublot and rolex for 56k AED
Rolex sold for 40k AED

Means I got hublot for 16k AED. Tbis is not taking into account the roughly 6k AED in vat refund. Im still waiting on that to materialize so I'm not counting it yet. Even without it its a win for me

I agree. The AD's can't move them even at steep discounts. At least in N America. I heard the Hublot store in Orlando sells about 3 a month. Stopped into a Hublot dealer in Toronto last week, that sells many brands. Said they can't sell one to save their lives.

So after it is all said in done, you got the hublot for 50% than msrp? Sounds like a pretty good deal for your mom's budget.

Stinks if there was a list for the Sub, but dont really know and not your fault. I would have done the same to save money.

Yes I get the point, that if you say “I’ll only buy it if...” the AD may be inclined to try to meet your demand in order to make a sale

But how is the AD giving you “a bag of money?”
The dealer was happy to get rid of the sick dog at MSRP for 'allowing' someone to buy the sub at MSRP.

it does shine a light on how inconsistent they are. I'm English, from London and in watches of Switzerland in London kept warrantee, literature, protectors and all the goodies from when I purchased my BLRN. I already had 2 Rolex sports at the time (was wearing an exp1 at the time) and have never sold a watch on in my life. They said it was Rolex Policy that they had to keep all of the aforementioned for 12 months, it is what it is.

didn't bother me at the time, they can keep it for the 12 months, yet you not even a UK citizen walk off the street with no relationship and they give you the set freely.

it is BS indeed. Rolex policy my bottom. they are just liars

This kind of flipping watches is one of the causes of the shortage of SS Rolex.

That's backwards -- the demand (and consequently inflated market values) is the reason why he immediately sold it. The fact that he immediately sold it didn't cause demand.

To be more clear, flippers aren't the reason that it's hard to get a stainless watch. It's hard to get a stainless watch because there are less watches out there than there are people who want them. Flippers are just taking advantage of an advantageous situation.

Good job, OP. Hublots have crazy markups and rarely sell, so it was wise of you to ask the AD to throw in a hot watch to sweeten the deal.

You are the Bran Stark of this transaction. You won the game of thrones but most people hate this ending.

Can you also clarify what you meant by “the sub was already sold” statement. Are you saying someone had already paid for it and he sold it to you anyway, or it was reserved for someone? Not judging just curious how scummy this dealer was.

Well, unless you're taking advantage of exchange rates and VAT, you'll likely lose money on that deal over just buying a Submariner gray market. Hublots lose like 30-40% value as soon as they're purchased so more than likely you'll lose more than the $1,500-2,000 that you'll "make" by buying the Sub at MSRP.

Of course lists are mythical. Why would a dealer keep a watch in the back for someone when they could sell it as a bundled item to a VVVIP?

Most dealers will only hold a watch for 24 hours max.

No mention if Mom got to share in the windfall (if I'm following correctly she funded the Hublot?).
50/50 split with her sounds right?

Ohhhh

I never understand how you guys can flip a watch so fast and make money!

I guess I just don’t know as many watch enthusiasts as you all do.

Me, if I came across a SS BLRO at MSRP, ended up not liking it, decided to sell, i would probably still lose money

I get that, my point was merely that people who wish to buy a brand new SS sub at an AD are free to purchase a Hublot/useless jewellery in order to get that.

It’s not anyone else’s fault if they are unwilling or unable to do that. We live in a capitalist society, Rolex is a luxury good, the method of assignment is therefore by default one’s ability and willingness to spend more money than the next person.

Being willing and able to pay more (either through greys, bundling or buying watches/jewellery to build relationships) is in fact the correct way to determine who gets to buy these models.

Complaining about it is quite frankly self entitlement of an unjustified kind. It’s like wanting to take all that’s good that capitalism offers and whining when it goes against them.

All I can say the OP did good and I would have done the same. At the end of the day, the Hublot is what they were after and ultimately they got it cheaper than any other way.

As to WoS keeping Warranty cards, it's total BS, it's down to the customer. My friend got his hulk after 2 weeks wait in march 2019, card and all. But he is known to them and defn not a flipper.

And yes, I own a Hublot as well (with hefty discount of 30%), bought before the brand was made famous by the 2012 World Cup sponsorship. Was very depressed when it was, because no one knew the brand or its cost before that. After that, I felt concious wearing it due to security issues... Then again, I shouldn't worry, cause most would think it was a replica anyway.

But I still love it... because I bought what I like and don't listen to what other people are telling me to like.

That’s right, Rolex SS Professional models are merit badges now, just like Geneva wants it.

People here are too judgemental on op

Why is it ok for a grey dealer, many of whom sell here to get new rolexs and make money on them, but not ok for the average guy. He did nothing wrong.

Nothing wrong with that! It looks great!
Seeing many Hublots lately, I do not know much about them but could be the brand is on the rise. I remember maybe 7-8 years ago the Hublots were really popular with their big bang models.
