The sub is thicker than the OP .
It depends on what your comfortable with.
I prefer thicker watches.

It all depends on your point of reference IMO. I traded away my SubC after 6 months because I couldn't get used to how small it was. If I had worn a 36 or 39mm for the 4 years prior to buying the SubC instead of a chunky 42mm, I probably would have thought the SubC was too big.

I've tried to size down 3 times now and sold the smaller one every time.

I saw a photo of the "blacked out" YM 42 they released at Basel this morning and it got me to thinking...what are the chances the next iteration of the Sub is 42? They took the Exp II up to 42, now they've also done it with the latest iteration of the YM. On the other hand the latest iteration of the GMT II stayed at 40, and that reference has long been a brother to the Sub.

Something else I think about is what would happen to the market for the 114060 and the 116610LN if Rolex were to actually go in the opposite direction and release a new 40mm Sub case with slimmer lugs and better overall proportions.

The 2019 iteration of the DJ seems to suggest that Rolex is back to making watches with slimmer lugs. I have high hopes for the next Sub. It's probably going to be a spectacular watch.
I just spent two days in meetings next to a guy wearing a SubC. I just couldn't stop noticing how ugly those fat lugs are. It's the most awkward, inelegant transition between lug and bracelet of any watch I've ever seen. I think the owners of this watch don't notice it because when you look down at your own wrist, it looks ok. When you see another person wearing it, from the side, I think it just looks bad. The SD4K 116600 has perfectly reasonable lugs. Why couldn't they have done something similar with the 6-digit subs? I will never buy one until they fix this. I like the idea of the ceramic bezel, though my 14060M has had no issues with bezel scuffs or scratches. I guess glidelock is a good thing though I'm not sure I like the idea of a rigid clasp taking up so much space underneath my wrist. But the fat lugs and the square shape of the case are just non-starters for me.

Never in a million years would I take a 14060 over a 114060.... and I suspect the overwhelming majority of watch buyers (not TRF “curmudgeons”) would say the same.

If you wear the watch that is heavier than what you are used to over longer time, you will get used to the heavier watch and it will be just like the one you wear now.
It's all about the fit to the wrist. Couple of centimeters in the case or 50g more on your wrist is not that important.

No the submariners dimensions I feel are spot on. I wouldn’t want it changed in any way

I have a 14060M, and have tried the OP39 .... very similar feel. The 6-digit No Date is too bulky for me.

My 114060 is the perfect size. Not too big and not too small.

I've worn a 214270 mk II for nearly three years as a daily driver and just bought a 16610. While it is a little bit thicker, it doesn't feel bulky at all. Very good proportions.

5-digit subs are the perfect size without the bulk of the 6-digit ones if that is your issue

Strange... After wearing the SD43 my SubC feels bulky. Hope the new Sub comes with smaller lugs!

I hope you are kidding. As I have said before, I was wearing my TT Sub and a very put together woman complimented me on it, but then asked me if it was a woman's watch... because it was so small. I have a 8 3/8 inch wrist. I am currently waiting for a TT Seadweller, which I will dump the Sub for.

I had a 14060 and that felt small at times to me (7" wrist) I now have a 114060 and I feel it's the perfect size with great wrist presence with its maxi case yet it's not too heavy or thick.
