If seeing SS subs everywhere bothers you, it's time to get a PM sub.

I don’t mind seeing people wear Rolex in the wild. It is a mass produced watch. It does not take away from my enjoyment of it. If you want exclusivity, move on to AP, PP, ALS.

Here in England I see maybe one a month if that. Plus as some have said there are an awful lot of fakes. Most common Rolex I see is lady dj 28mm tt or variants of.

Why so self-hatred? Living in LA doesn't mean you are superior than any other Chinese.

Saw this post. So I wasn’t imagining things. Swiss exports to China are up 80% year over year and exports to Japan are up 40% year over year versus around 10% the year before

Not self hatred- being obnoxious and loud is a behavior and not associated to any race. It just happens that I have had many bad experiences with Mainland Chinese in LA and elsewhere. Rude, pushy, entitled, and flaunting wealth. I aspire to be none of these things.

Then talk to your parents how they are grown up. 30 years ago, you laughed at their poverty. Now they are rich and you begin laughing at their behavior. Who says they can not change in the near future. Be chill, and stop self hatred. Group tourists from USA is nothing better than anyone else. If you want to see some news about it, I can show you the links.

Lol at that.

But, it prob means that the SS SubC is a great watch and that Rolex is selling tons of them. However, I got sick of seeing it in every airport. Sold it. Still have my Gold Bluesy though, wear that all the time.

I personally don’t wear watches for other people, I wear it for myself. Life is to short to get bothered by things like this. Cheers!
Perfectly said.

I definitely saw more Rolex Sub then Seiko diver watches, when we were in HK, we saw sale associates at Chanel/Gucci/Hermes/... were wearing Submariners. I was sporting my Seiko Turtle PADI.

It's easy to spot a Rolex when Rolex is manufacturing 1 million watches a year. Toyota makes about 10 million cars/trucks per year so you see them everywhere.

Once I started paying attention, I was surprised how few such watches were actually Rolex. Even the Parnis, which is south of $50, is a decent copy from a distance. It's more similar than the Tudor Black Bay, which is very Sub-ish if you don't get a good look at the hands. For a while, Invicta made a clone except quartz (seconds-tick.) You'd be amazed how people will brag about their watch being "just as good but a better value" while pulling hair off their arms and turning their skin green. I can't recall a single conversation where the non-Rolex-owner was offended of me asking about their watch. (And yeah, I'm the guy who can talk to anyone, so I do.)

But not much else looks like a Rolesor or PM DJ. (i.e. sharp flutes on the bezel, Jubilee bracelet.)
This is interesting. I work in downtown Manhattan also, and regularly go to a gym off Wall Street (which probably has many showoff-$$$ people as you'll find). I seldom see men, at least the younger ones, wearing ANY watch. They all use their phones to tell time, which is as inconvenient as telling time with a pocket watch (or worse -- you don't have to push buttons on a pocket watch to turn it on before you can read it).

The Japanese love their watches and can afford them. I remember being in a meeting with three regular middle class guys. One had a sub, another a black gmt, the third has a speedy pro. Awesome!

Also don’t forget they are very much conformists. Black suits with white shirts for 90% of men in Tokyo.

So isn't it a pretty worthless "tool?"

I do like the colors and contrast of the Bluesy but don't expect to ever get one due to the size and thickness.

By your rational, mechanical watches are useless (phone, $10 quartz watches which look great, etc). Is that also your opinion? Or just the dive feature? I don’t use the dive feature often, but with a slight imagination it can be useful. Or is it only allowed to be used for diving in your opinion? Most important, I find them to be the most timeless and aesthetically appealing watches in the game. So I have 3 including a Seiko, Tudor and Rolex.

To OP, this is no secret. Subs and DJ are the most popular, and for good reason IMO. I also agree that they are a common choice for non-WIS type just trying to make an impression (or as you say, loud tourists). That doesn’t change my opinion of them one bit.
