I don’t even talk to people that aren’t wearing a Rolex. I am a superior and lonely individual.

Amen to that....keeping the less fortunate in mind is key. We should be a charitable society to those who can't work or who do work hard but circumstances make matters hard for them.

Happy Independence Day to all! Its a great holiday for each country whenever they celebrate it!

To the general public consumer, Rolex is the THE BEST and that subsequently makes them THE BEST.

Rolex isn't alone in this. Happens in plenty of other luxury segments...take Hi-Fi for example. To the general public, Mcintosh is the best and owning one makes them the best...etc.

This goes with kitchen appliances...HVAC systems...Cars...etc.

No big deal really, just how companies marketing strategies get people to buy their stuff over somebody elses..

I don't know what it is either but there is something about seeing that. Not like anybody else really notices but I know it's there.

A number of years ago, I was driving around parts of Europe. Over a span of three weeks I only encountered one Italian wearing a Rolex, he was was a parking lot manager in Trieste: the second was my waiter in Munich. I was wearing a Rolex and seeing those two individuals gave me food for thought.

I am fortunate that I can afford one and cognizant of the fact that my watch is many multiples of a third world wage. In the end, it’s just a possession, albeit one that I love being able to enjoy.

That's hilarious. Thanks for sharing.

Do agree with one of his sentiments though. The "OMG who needs a $xxK watch" commentary from people is quite asinine.

Do not agree with his comparison between Audi and Mustang though, lol. A Shelby GT will smoke most Audi's out there.

So, how do you feel next to a guy wearing AP or PP, inferior? Did the whole world gone mad and we care only about material possessions?

Well played in the click bait title that led to some pretty interesting responses. I enjoyed it. Nicely finished in your post above, as well.

Watching how someone treats a waiter/waitress tells you everything you need to know...

I was hesitant to buy a Rolex because of what others might think, then a fellow Rolex owner told me that the only people who notice are other watch sophisticates, connoisseurs, geeks... As soon as that epiphany hit me, I was down at my AD putting my name on the list for that Hulk I foolishly let get away 2 years ago.

I feel I am wearing a superior watch and watches are supremely important to me.

I don’t look down on others’ watches.

Cheap fly fishing gear does drive me mad, especially Korean and Chinese gear. Watches are just tools. Fly fishing gear is the pathway to transcendence. The gear can be hand crafted and so fine and light that it’s like being connected directly to the fish. It’s my favorite thing on earth to give me a few hours distraction from the stresses of my profession. Why some would choose broomstick like rods and cumbersome reels is tragic.
