Still my favorite as you can see original dial, hands, date wheel etc... Case edges have gotten soft lots of scuffs etc... But man shes a champ, wouldnt trade for anything. E serial circa 1990, was passed down from my grandfather to me.

ALRIGHT - so a SLIGHT update! After speaking to my lovely AD manager and having a good catch up, I cheekily tested my luck and started talking about the jubilee bracelet..and the white gold pepsi..and how much i'd like the SS pepsi..to my amazment she said shed put me on it and when I said how long she said "a while..has a lot of people..but i'll see what I can do"

Last time she said that, she got my the d-blue within two months

LETS DO THIS

thankyou and goodnight

Anyway, the AD I have a great relationship with has agreed to put me on the list for both pieces and she will call me when the next one comes in likely next 2-3 months so I need to decide!
Update: this will be my only watch..

When I think of a Sub it has a date, no?

Hmm tough one.... on a modern rolex i would say def cyclops.... if you were buying a vintage sub i would steer towards no date like the 5512 and 5513. And the no date submariner is the iconic watch not the date model....cheers

When someone at work asks me the day of the month and I can't look at my fancy watch and tell them I cannot forgive myself. so date it is.

Icon4 Date no date

I have several Rolex’s and the no-date Sub is by far my favorite. It is the most practical and wearable of the lot. I love the fact I don’t have to set the date every time I grab it to wear it. It’s a very clean and unassuming watch that doesn’t draw a lot of attention of people who don’t know what they are looking at i.e. thieves looking for something flashy and shiny.

No Date if part of a collection, get the Date if it will be your only watch.

The ND seems novel until you own one. Then you start regretting not having a date and cyclops. Do yourself a favor and avoid the remorse and just get the date.

That’s your experience, not mine.
It’s great as part of a collection

114060. 1) cyclops are ugly; 2) date is redundant; 3) need to set it every other month.

Not true. You are talking about the most famous watch in the world. I have a GMT LN and still have been close to buying the Submariner.

You have the sickest photos of dive watches just sitting in that seat. It's like full on studio lighting and effects or something because they all look soooo good.

NO DATE. The original came with no date. The original is still made today and it is called the Submariner. A clean diving dial is why there was no date. Divers didn't need a date.

As for the need for a date, well last time I checked everyone has a phone. Your phone has a date on it. Your computer has a date and unless your brain can't remember the last time it saw the date on either device you should be ok.

Also Definitions:
Submariner= No Date
Submariner Date= Submariner Date.

The original came with no date and is just called Submariner. The date version that came later was created for the movie, Jason and the Argonauts

I really love them both, but I really like having the date on my watch if possible. So I’d choose the date.

I think the Sub was no-date for about 15 years before the 1680? For that reason and my preference for symmetry on this piece, I prefer the heritage and simpler dial of the no-date. Took the classical approach even further by seeking a two-liner. This is a lifetime watch.

No Date in 1953

Date Sub in 1965 (12 years later)
