I personally have never had difficulty figuring out what the date is without a date on a watch. I can usually have the answer with in 10 seconds.

1. If I have a date on a Rolex, it would mean looking at that horrific cyclops. Pass.

2. I never care what the date actually is.

3. The only watches where I would accept a date is a perpetual or even an annual calendar where I do not have to change it often.

Your phone tells time too.

I wouldn't have a watch without a date.

I feel the same way. While it’s not necessary as one can look at their phone, it still is a habit from a lifetime of having a date on all of them. The only watch I have that doesn’t is my 5513 and I hold on to that because it is a special birth year watch.

Previously had a beautiful Daytona which rarely found wrist time because I couldnt get used to not having a date. Sold it primarily because of that.

This is how no-date owners make themselves feel better and rationalize their choices...

I find I wear my no date watches on the weekend and change into them at night after work, but at the office it drives me nuts not to have a date

A date complication is nice to have, but it is hardly a necessity in today's world of electronic gizmos with the time and date displayed everywhere.

While the time changes continuously, the date only changes once per day.

It's easy enough to wean oneself from the habit of checking one's watch multiple times per day to check the date and learn to store that information in one's head.

Do people who can't remember the date from one moment to the next really feel better about themselves than those who are able to memorize the date, or to improvise in the moment?

I have plenty of watches with dates and I have plenty without.

A date complication is nice, but it's hardly a necessity, as I stated earlier.

That’s pretty narrow minded.
Get up in the morning, glance at your phone once and remember the date....it’s only remembering 1/2 numbers and it’s in sequence with the day before so really simple to remember.

I rarely look at the date on my watch.... actually the only time I look at it is to see the open 6, 9, etc. on my 1675. More for seeing the aesthetics of it during the 3 or 4 times a month.
I completely agree with you, people seem to have stopped functioning with indepent thought and rational processing.
And I wish to every Basel every created that Rolex would bring back open 6 and 9s, and silver date wheels, such a simple detail, but omg, it's fascinating.

For me symmetry trumps the date function, I wish my D-Blue was a no-date and imagine a no date LVc. On some watches like the BLRO/DD40s it makes sense because it makes the watch a full-function professional watch.
The symmetrical dial on the Daytona is a huge pull for me, so beautiful and they're easier to set and move along.

For many years every watch that I owned had to have a date function.
Now I am happy to have a combination of both.

Getting by w/ out a date function on a watch is pretty easy... I make a point to remember what day of the week the first of the month falls on... Knowing any subsequent day of the week is pretty simple, as is the math needed to determine the date.

Totally forgot that buying a $10,000 watch, let alone a whole collection of them is rational

I go to the office, turn on the laptop, open Outlook and voilá! I have the date in front of me for the rest of the day. And while going to the office, I see the date on my phone.

Prefer a clearer dial.

Also, if rotating between watches and one of them is out of power, just need to set the time. Quicker than having to also set the date.

Just a shame you’re limiting yourself. 114060 is in my opinion nicer than the date model (although clearly you won’t agree). Also means you’d never want a Daytona or many Pateks and that’s sad all because of the date that only changes once a day anyway....just doesn’t make sense to me.

I have mostly date models but one non date but I happily move between them and never feel deprived about lack of a date.

In my daily life I can't imagine being so unaware that I can't figure out the date in my head after a few seconds. I suppose I just remember these basic things.

The only exception being when I travel to Asia for work when you lose/gain days in your travels. Then I usually have no idea what day it is and grab a watch with a date.

I have watches without and like them a lot but I do find the date reassuring. If I had to whittle down to one watch I think it would have to have a date. 16710 probably.

Sounds like you don't need a Rolex at all expect for the jewelry effect.

I use the date function every day, much more than the time. I use the second time zone more than the time. It's far quicker than whipping out my phone, which I chose to not always have by my side.

I prefer watches with the date function, but do also own some without. Your phone is your friend!

I used to think it was a mandatory but the more I start rotating watches, i find it refreshing to not have a date function.

Serious question : how do you live without a date function ?
Serious answer : I have a computer.

PS : There are no "no date subs", only subs and subs-date.

I know what the date was yesterday, today is one more. I wish all watches were to-date or available that way as an option. I won't completely rule out a watch if it has a date and even have one day/date (not the Rolex Presidentm, a Sinn 203). Seriously, if I don't know what day it is why do I care what time it is?

I have a 39mm Explorer and 2 different Speedmasters as my most worn watches. If the used prices hadn't spiked to stupid levels I'd add a pre-ceramic Daytona.

If I can find the right pieces I'd eventually like to be 100% date free.

I own both date/no date watches. I’m gradually beginning to favor the no date because of the cleaner look.

The date is somewhat distracting at times...and it takes away from the overall design and flow of the dial....with that said, I just use Siri when I want to know the date...easy and fast...
