It has more to do with the 'seconds' hand and 'sub-dial' hands. The hour & minute markers aren't a problem.

IMO, I think it's the silver hands over black that will make it tough. Depending on lighting of course.

I find mine to be very legible. Not quite as much as my Sub or YM but way more than my DD champagne dial that has no contrast.
And I use the chronograph almost daily and have no issues reading it

It's definitely subjective. Everyone sees things differently based off of what they're used to.
