Just doesn't sound very plausible 'story'. So you both started discussions about polishing a watch that was in front of you both in a pouch but they hadn't actually looked at. Very odd behaviour from you both.

Plausible is that you are anxious to make me wrong for whatever agenda you have. I've no idea. However it has been a factual account. And speaking of odd behavior...

Here is a picture of my wedding band ... I've tried to illustrate the outside surface which has the dull, worn, patina finish after years of wear, vs the inside which is how the outside used to look when new ...

I wonder if your polished center links will take on the same patina effect eventually?

I see what you're getting at. Given that daily wear on my watch hasn't really started making the PCLs look brushed, I don't think that will be a problem. I guess we'll see, since I don't plan on saving my watch for the next guy.

I'm not anxious. Just a very odd way to go about what you wanted to get done is all.

Perhaps it made you happy and feel good about owning such a watch and I guess that all that counts...

I think this kind of patina would look fantastic FWIW, so I was only saying here as a positive.

How is it strange to carry your watch in a pouch and go into a shop a couple of minutes from your workplace (from which it was purchased) and ask for it to be polished? That seems kind of like the normal path for something like this to happen. Anything other would seem extraordinary to me. Tell me how you would have proceeded?

I thought the way it went down was humorous hence the story. Otherwise I guess I've just wasted everyone's time with a boring, self aggrandizing, recount. You have my apologies for wasting your time and seeing something as humorous.

Thanks for sharing your experience Lee. Since they're authorized by Rolex I suppose they usually keep to the policy of refinishing with service only. Thankfully there's some leeway (pun intended) using the local shop vs RSC.

I can't believe I'm about to say this, but that actually looks good with the scratches. I have been pondering a new DJ but the polished center links are making me hesitate. I guess if they get scratched up enough it will just look like a well worn watch and maybe not bother me. Normally, I try to avoid scratches if possible, but I don't get too beat up if I get them unless it's a dressier piece. I actually got more upset scratching an under $200 Citizen dress watch than I did with my Omega dive watch.

If you look at the subsequent pictures I posted (after cleaning the watch), it doesn't look nearly as blemished. It would be fine if Rolex came out with a non-scratch PCL and the watch looked brand new forever, kinda like the cerachrome bezel, but it's not worth parking the watch (to me) to keep it pristine. Truly to non-TRFers, from a couple of feet away, it looks just fine.

In my case I just couldn't over look it; I wasn't wearing the watch as much as I'd like. I'll be happy to have it improved. Hopefully I've learned and can take a bit better care of it. At any rate, polishing Platinum periodically doesn't seem like a disaster.

I enjoyed the story! I didn't take it as grandstanding. Whatever watch ends up being in that bag should at least be considered. Although, revealing a platona I'm quite sure stimulated that "high-roller alert" potential future sale on the horizon fervor. I'm sure the service was extra fine from that point on. Did you get offered water and a Swiss chocolate? Beauty BTW with patina or without, I really love that reference! The stuff that dreams are made of! Looking forward to the pics.

I was offered water, caviar, a human foot stool, but alas all I wanted was a diet soda of which I got the last one. The sales guy also said I should stop in more often which I don't like to do unless I'm interested in buying something. Thanks!!!

So are you saying that owning a Platona is smug? If so I'm curious as to where on the Rolex scale smugness begins. One might assert it begins with not owning a Timex.

Yes, I don't get it either. It's a simple story presented factually. I (or my Platinum Daytona) seem to be a magnet to draw disagreeables out of the woodwork. I remember in a previous thread someone one who has since been banned, asserting that the Platona was the only thing going in my life. How could some ever say such a thing to another person. What really tweaks me is that it pretty much is calling me a liar. In life with out the computer to hide behind that would be tantamount to asking someone to fight. People have died in duals due to that sort of behavior. I know it's over dramatization but unfortunately it's the truth.

It's some sort of ego massaging asserting their artificial expertise. I suspect it's based on low self esteem.

This happens to be a Rolex forum where all of us show their watches and the stories that go with them.
I like to read those stories and TRF is a nice and friendly place to share thoughts about an amazing brand.

If you did a search you would know that HogwldFLTR is nothing like you are insinuating.

I remember seeing Jerry Lewis, the actor/comedian, many years ago when his son was going to be on TV with his band Gary Lewis and the Playboys. Jerry's dress dress was blue jeans and a blue denim work shirt.

No you don't have to, but you could put on a simple polo shirt and a pair of well fitting jeans, maybe even some brogues or a pair of suede clarks desert shoes.
