So, the Daytona has uneven lugs, a dial that makes checking the time difficult, it has a small face and big bezel, complete non availability at the Authorised Dealers and a crazy high price at a grey dealer. What is there to like about a Daytona?

Ha! Interesting that others have noticed and mentioned the asymmetry. After 10 years of owning 3 Daytonas, I never noticed this until I read the this post. I have old eyes now anyway, so I probably won't notice the difference even if I go and take a look.

Then perhaps start leaning more about the Rolex brand, on all TT and SS watches like Daytona, Subs, GMTs and most all the sports range they always had slightly thinner lugs on the crown side to keep case symmetry.

As Padi noted, it’s been this way on Rolex SS sports models for decades, and with Daytonas the asymmetrical case design has been like this since the 16520 debuted in the late ‘80s. Guys are just noticing now?

If you really want to drive yourself nuts, start examining the asymmetrical sub-dials on modern Daytonas, which is a bigger deal for those of us with watch OCD. That started with the 116520. Thank goodness the Zenith Daytonas have a perfectly symmetrical dial!

I see it as an obvious design choice and not a flaw. While I personally would prefer more symmetry in the lugs, the current silhouette isn't such a turnoff to become a deal breaker. And as prices dictate, most consumers seem to feel the same.

I didn't notice the asymmetry until I watch the Youtube video from H. Really enjoy his review esp. watches from the holy trinity! Im getting old so I didn't really notice it on the wrist even when I try! Maybe more obv with the ceramic bezel? I only got the 116520!

I own both versions. Uneven on a YG and even on a WG.

I prefer the uneven.

You have that reversed.

16520 and 116520 generation SS Daytona all had asymmetrical lugs.

The new 2016 - 116500 Daytona's case size/asymetrical lugs follows the same shape as the 116520, which came out in 2000

Easy to grind down a side, then repolish. Problem solved.

It seems I’m not the only one that never noticed and needs more Rolex education. I checked mine and the asymmetry is indeed present if you’re looking for it.

Just buy a PM Daytona if you don't like it.

Or you can buy the new Zenith Zaytona LOL!!
+1...I knew before buying. Couldn't tell you why but I love the asymmetrical lugs. The SS Daytona has by far my favorite case shape of the entire Rolex catalogue.

Asymmetric lugs on the crown and pusher side. This is a 2020 I used to own.

Why ugly uneven lugs on the SS Daytona? Can't unsee

It is.

SS and YG is tapered on crown side. While platinum, RG and WG is even on both sides.

To follow up on my previous post, I'm a 116500 owner and love the asymmetric lugs because of their 'slimming' appearance. On the flip-side, I am considering a 116519 purchase this year and worry that the beefier symmetric lugs will make the watch too big for me. This might be something else for you to consider.

Before someone says that this is somehow meant to "balance" the pushers, the precious metal Daytonas have completely symmetrical lugs and they look way more balanced, so it's puzzling to me.
I never understood why they do it both ways either. I will say I like the look of the larger, more balanced WG and PT on my wrist. Subtle difference makes a huge impact to my eye.

Okay this was my mistake, YG for whatever reason has the asymmetry as well, but not the WG/RG/Platinum. Will you forgive me???

Anyway, I've decided on a 116515 with black dial and RG sub-dials

Maybe examining your watch under a microscope is not the way to use them under normal circumstances. Forget about the doggone lugs and just enjoy them...

Just get the white gold and put a SS dial in there if you must.

I’d argue that the dial showing .2 second timing marks (4 marks plus the second one for each second) is “more annoying.” It suggests that the movement can time to either .2 or .1 seconds, when it does .125 instead. There should be three marks between seconds (4 marks including the seconds one) so that the 28800 vph would allow the chronograph timing hand to be either on or off the indicator.

I totally agree. I also don’t get why some people enjoy spending time finding non-issues to get all bent out of shape over.
