I don’t think the AD’s care... Porsche doesn’t care if you buy a GT3 RS and then sell it for over retail. Blanton’s doesn’t care that I pay 3X for a bottle of their bourbon. Just the opposite guys, if your business objective is to go up-market, which Rolex’s clearly is, hell this is good for the brand and the business.

Funny you mention Blanton’s. My liquor store (a large chain in Florida) has a VIP program that gets me access 6-8 times a year to purchase from their vault. I purchase Blanton’s ($67) from it and they made me state I would not try to resell any bottles I received. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If I want to sell a watch I first go to the AD that sold it to me. Yes, I may or may not make more or less money than selling to someone myself but I don’t want that hassle. Maybe a grey offers more or less, who cares? More hassle
The AD knows that I wore the watch and why I’m selling and I’m not a flipper. The AD gets to make a second, larger profit on the same watch and can vouch for its history and authenticity to a buyer. Then, when they get a hot watch in, guess who gets offered that watch? Ive also gotten pre-owned watches from the AD from other customers who do the same thing. |

What are most people who sell on this site considered ? Flippers ? You see so many brand new watches a week or two old and people are asking (and getting) sometimes double the retail price.

It doesn't make any sense! So ADs want to get rid of their "dogs" and I am supposed to buy uninspired ladies watches (because I love the brand) and they string me along but then punish me if I do decide to sell a watch that I lawfully bought. Excuse me but I feel like there are a lot of righteous internet gentlemen here because talk is cheap. If the whole world would as honorable as people pretend to be here on the forum then the world would be full of rainbows and unicorns. |

Righteousness has nothing to do with it, just the practical knowledge that an AD, should it discover a customer is buying watches only to sell them straightaway is within its rights to not sell any more watches to said customer. And that ADs may indeed do that, and some have. If nothing else because constantly satisfying such customers puts their Rolex dealership in jeopardy if Rolex finds watches of any particular AD constantly being put up for sale shortly after leaving an AD. No one is saying it is illegal, morally wrong or that ADs are actively spying on their customers to see who does it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Flipping is one component of the overall game. Those same ads you may be concerned about are putting watches out the side door to the Grey market. To think otherwise would be naive. I've gone full circle on this subject. They are hypocritical if they concern themselves about what someone does when they leave the store as the Grey market is full of watches that have come direct from ads. You only stand a chance of winning if you understand the game and rules being played IMHO. Always do what is in your best interests

Force you to return the watch? What legal basis exits for that. You own it, you can flip it. There may be consequences but I’m sure returning the watch is not one.

And there should be no problem with that. What you do with your own property is your business and keeping a collection to a size which gives wrist time to all and allowing you to try something new is an admirable goal.
