you should do your research and get the watch you think fits best in your collection. if it's a DJ then go for it. If you want something else then I would wait...

I bought my DJ36 because it sang to my heart. It’s quintessential Rolex in its purest form with the addition of a date complication and it’s absolutely iconic. I don’t need to follow the hype train created by Instagram and chase pieces that are impossible to get from the AD and that force me to pay a massive premium on the grey market to find happiness. A DateJust is every bit as much a Rolex as a Daytona or a Submariner!

Hard to say you’d regret a vintage DJ - I see you have a balance of 5 & 6 digit models.

Frankly I am underwhelmed with the newer bigger shinier things the DJ model has become.

So...to me...it is time you go 36mm with the less flashy bezel

I didn’t buy a DJ when getting my first watch since I had the option of getting the bright blue OP41 and liked the cleaner dial look on that and then got the date sub but yesterday I was at Mayors in Atlanta and they had 2 ladies datejusts in the case and that was it! Said they had plenty of existing customers that they also shipped to out of state. I bet if I asked him for a DJ there would be a waitlist for it too 😂

You have me thinking now also!

Did you buy AD, grey new or 2nd?

What would you say is a good price?

Thank you

I own 3 DJ 41s which I purchased when they first came out , the modern 41 is a perfect size and with all the different variations they look like totally different watches.
I have owned or own just about every model Rolex have released in the last 10 years and only bought the Datejusts because I like them

I have a Submariner (114060) and a Speedmaster Pro (1863). The only watch I want to add is a DJ41. My goal is having those 3 watches, plus an Apple Watch. That’s basically all I need.

There are times when I think, “my DJ41 is all I want/need.” It is a spectacular watch!

Of course, I also think that of my BLNR and Daytona from time to time too.

I bought my 36mm DJ a few years back. I was also able to try on other sports watches.
The DJ for me was simply the best watch. I was tempted by an explorer 2 but because my wrist is under 9inches it looked way too big

Damn you Doug....

(kidding!)

Seriously though, is it just me or does the DJ41 look the largest of your (incredible) trio?

I mean bezel edge to bezel edge

Also is the DJ41 bracelet wider at the lugs than the Daytona? The outer links appear wider to me?

Congrats on your beautiful 'family'

Marco

Would someone who doesn't really want a DJ do this because he's bored or because he thinks the watch might turn out to be a "good investment"? Very strange.

You know...you don't HAVE to buy anything, or maybe buy a different brand.

No, but the fact that they have risen in price has made me want to keep mine rather than trade it in for something else which was half on my mind when I bought it as I am more of a sports guy.

Hi Marco!

Thank you for the nice compliment.

To answer your questions...
Yes and yes.

The DJ41 does have 21mm lugs vs. 20mm lugs for the Daytona and GMT.

It’s dial is noticeably larger than the other two so it seems like a larger watch. And on the Oyster it has a sportier feel compared to the DJ on jubilee.

Buying from an AD? I don't think many ADs have a good selection of in '21 either. If you aren't too picky about the dial (and if you are OK with diamonds), and in particular if you are OK passing on the 41, then drive around to a few ADs and you won't have to wait. Otherwise...wait.

Bought several DJs and DDs over the course of the last 30 years.. Always ended up selling them as I ultimately prefer professionals.

Fluted bezel DJ. Classic Rolex. Be careful settling for this watch. You may not wear anything else.

I am a big fan of datejusts, the older white dialled ones especially. They are many out there, set youself a budget and go hunting.

I had the chance to get a Blue dial Datejust 2 (116334) at a good price from a reputable grey dealer. Loving it since!

I might be a wierdo but I grew up thinking a DJ is the only Rolex. I got a black dial fluted + jubilee as my first watch THAN the SSS models grew on me.

Makes sense, me too. Cause my grandpa was wearing a ref. 1500 given as a long service award. I could be wrong, but there wasn’t many wearing a submariner over the Datejust in the 80s and 90s.

I bought a DJ36 two years ago for this same reason, absolutely love the watch. Got me a GMT 18 months later so it all worked out

Great option - it’s such a versatile watch. More durable and rugged than ANY AP, PP or FPJ. More flexible than most sports watches.

I don’t own one, but will likely be getting one soon
