For proof just look to the new Explorer 124270. They have turned an already amazing watch, in both 36 and 39 sizes, and made it perfect with the revert to 36 and updated dimensions.

People saying 40 vs 40 is negligible are completely disregarding the fact that the Daytona is actually a 38.

With that being said, fully on board with that OP, have actually said for years I’d plunk down for a Daytona the second they even just made it a ‘true’ 40.5.

Why do people keep wanting every watch to be the same size as the submariner? That's kinda boring. I actually wish the GMT Master II was a more distinct size (probably smaller).

The Daytona being on the smaller end of the scale is GOOD. I want different watches to be different.

I guess because, in the absence of Rolex taking a leaf out of Omega, Breitling, and a number of other brands books by offering models in more than one size, then 40mm is kind of a sweet spot for most wrist sizes.

Because different doesn't always mean good. Having a small watch loses satisfaction and losing satisfaction for the sake of being different is silly.

Or maybe Rolex decided the proportions were ideal at the current size. Based on the difficulty of obtaining a Daytona at retail, it’s “a bit silly” to suggest that the Daytona is somehow “less satisfying” than bigger watches.

I don't really have an opinion one way or the other. I would like a black dial/hand set with a bit better legibility though.

This is a fallacious argument considering Rolex changes sizes for models all the time? How many times have they changed sizes for the submariner, explorer, oyster perpetual, the Datejust, the yacht master, etc? They make size changes all the time on a whim. To state the Daytona size is perfect cause the all mighty Rolex always gets it right and bever change their mind is nonsensical.

Let's not forget that the difficulty of getting one at retail is cause the demand is lined up by people who by the vast majority have never even handled one in real life and don't know how small it wears. The vast majority are under the impression that it is a true to size 40mm -- so guess what, you just argued my point for me. A 40mm watch is ACTUALLY what people are waiting in line for cause that's what they were told it was. Thanks for agreeing with me!

Nice. Literally making up “facts” in the same post you call someone else’s argument fallacious. Can’t make this stuff up.

Yeah right. Do you actually think the majority of people on the list for a Daytona know the true size is 38.5mm? The burden of proof is on YOU to prove that most people know Rolex is lying about the advertised 40mm size.

I tried on a non ceramic Daytona and instantly thought it was too small. I am not sure if the ceramic model wears bigger. So my first instinct is to say increasing the size to a true 40mm would make the watch more appealing to me. I tend to like larger watches, my Rolex Subs and GMT being the smallest watches I wear. I regularly wear watches ranging from 42mm - 47mm.
