I prefer the date sub. The less I look at my iPhone the better it is for my family.

As a historian I prefer the Submariner--first Rolex I purchased. Clean, symmetrical, historical. Go with the original.
If I need a date function I wear my GMTs. |

I like them both but if I had to choose It would be the ND. I like the dial and the balance. I like date watches and depending on the brand and model the date function can look good. I never understand people though who say that they use the date function multiple times a day. It does not matter the date of the watch. If I know the date yesterday then I know the date today and so on. I also know how many days are in each month and when leap years is. Some people may find that a little much but it is really about paying attention.

I don't usually say this in my post replies, but you should really try using the search function on this one. But let me help you out, because even the search function, even if a pole has been created, may not really get you the truth. The truth, again, whether or not it's the answer you are looking for is a different story. The truth of the matter is that the majority of people choose the date function. The regular submariner is produced in far less amounts compared to the submariner date.
Regardless of whether you get 80% of people who take great pride in their submariners post and say submariner all the way, it really doesn't matter, as it is not a accurate representation of the public and what they choose. The correct answer to your question? The correct answer is that the majority of people pick the submariner date, and that's the more popular model. If you're wondering, in my case, I also prefer the date function, and I find it very useful. Regardless of whether or not it breaks up the simpleness and the symmetry with the cyclops, I don't care. But my personal taste aside, your answer is submariner date. Sent from my SM-G988U using Tapatalk |

I believe from my many years as a Rolex enthusiast, those with 1 or 2 watches or non enthusiasts/new to the brand in general favour the date. The Rolex “die hards”, often with extensive collections, favour the purity and originality of the no date model. Either way, you can’t go wrong, but for me, the no date is just a bit more special |

Personal preference.
No date here. Symmetrical. Functional. Easy to set. |

THE Submariner. "No Date' is not official name for Rolex for good reason. The other and later one is the "Submariner Date". If I were to choose I would go for the classic original Submariner. Without the complication.

You've been an enthusiast for over a decade, and you have a Pepsi hulk and blnr all with date functions all looking extremely similar to the submariner ln....and in 2018 after many years after release you thought about the submariner and came on here to get some advice from true WIS as to what to do. Lol. To see what they think and of you should buy it, after already having purchased a bunch of SS sports Rolex watches with date complications including a submariner date. Anyway have a good day you true wis you, and stay safe and well Sent from my SM-G988U using Tapatalk |

I prefer the Sub with date. I mean....if you don't use it you don't have to set it but it's there if you wish to use it and it's a complication and adds value to the watch IMO. I also think it looks better but that's individual. I would look at resale values on chrono24 and get an idea of what the market thinks too. I have plenty of watches with no date but I find it a useful function when it's there and it's why a Datejust or Daydate is a more expensive model than a Oyster Perpetual.

Tastes change with time. I love all my date pieces, but when it comes to black subs, the classic no date just edges it for me. Stay safe |

There is no doubt that both are beautiful. What one has to ask is what is the need do I need a date or not. A three hand with no cyclops is sweet and such a clean dial, but if you are always worried what the day of the month is then yes you need a date. Personally, I prefer the date function with the cyclops but that is just my opinion

This is such a great question....I change my answer by the day. I love the perfect symmetry of the ND, but I also think the date with magnifier is so Rolex. I guess I'd vote to keep the Submariner with date.
More interesting would be, what if every model gave you the choice of date versus no date. Explorer II with date versus Explorer II no date for example. |

So…at the end of the day, after all the opinions and sharing of personal thoughts, my take way is: whatever I decide to do, I will regret it!

Sub-Date. If you’re worried about symmetry, may as well look for the very rare Sub No-Time without the needless complexity of the hour, minute and second hands.

I disagree with those that like the no-date but it is still pretty clean so buy what you like
