Panda purchase question

I am on no AD waiting list for this watch so I would never get it the regular way. And I held off a year ago when it was going for 30k. I wanted that watch, if the price flattens i won’t be too upset. Even if it drops by 20k I still have a Panda I can enjoy. I will never sell it so it doesn’t really matter where prices go from now. Sure would be cool to say it’s worth 100k one day

This pic justifies it for me :)

Agree. I’d rather pay MSRP for a 116503, which is much more attainable, than $50k on the panda.

The rational that it will keep going up makes sense if you are a watch investor. I don't personally have a desire to own one at any price, but in my mind it is a great value at MSRP and a good value under $20k but at today's prices it is just plain overpriced. I don't buy anything that overpriced, I look elsewhere. So sure, it may go up but if your mindset is to buy a watch to wear then it is a real stretch to pay $50k for a watch the AD paid $10k for a week prior.

That is a tough one.

The only thing I can tell you is that all logic and reason disappear whenever the word "Daytona" appears on the dial.

True but as a daily wearer the PM bezel isn’t as ideal imo. Got a WG Daytona and that dinks when I look at it I swear

Or look at it another way: if you buy a new car for $50k now or a SS Daytona, in four years the SS Daytona is going to be worth a lot more money than the car regardless what the economy does.
To be fair, a car has always been a product that wears out and depreciates at a much faster and obvious way compared to a luxury watch.

It will be impossible to get any Daytona at list if you don’t have any past purchases. If it’s been on your mind, just get it and enjoy if you have the funds.

All my buddies with Daytonas have purchased from Grey, one just got a panda for 45k in early Jan.

I know, but just making a point of other things people typically buy in this price range.

After watches and wonder it will go back up. I am pretty sure if patterns are correct most greys and resellers are unloading to buy new watches.

It’s not crazy when a ten+ year waiting list was mentioned as the norm last year. You will see the occasional lucky forum member score one at their AD on this forum but we do not represent a realistic statistical probability. This is like going to a “lottery forum” and seeing all the winners thinking it’s a realistic probability you’ll win as well.

Great point, but wouldn’t use a PM Daytona as a daily. That’s my Sub’s job!

I have various dailies so the Daytona comes into play when I wear a shirt. My Subs are just too thick, same with my GMT. That’s why I splashed out on a Panda.

If they made a full bracelet PM Daytona with a ceramic bezel I wouldn’t need the Panda but if you want to wear a full bracelet Daytona regularly you don’t have much choice. You got the Playtona of course but I missed the train on that one even more - plus that’s not a daily wearer unless you want to get robbed for sure :)

The Daytona is a decent watch IMO. Nothing spectacular about it. But the public has done a GREAT job at glorifying it that the value has skyrocketed beyond belief.

I really enjoyed reading your post, to me you did the right thing, those who has the watch and said will not pay 50k is simply because they had the watch already.

Huge Congratulations!!! You deserve it , ENJOY

Debating doing this as well. But not straight up cash.

What do you all think of training a Z-Blue and Hulk for a Panda?

Definitely a fair price for one in this condition, especially since you can see and touch it first and from an AD that you know and trust. Also I would view a 2021 card without a prior owner's name a plus in my book.

We seem to be in a market lull right now, post holidays and just before the new models coming out. I suspect prices will climb on these for the rest of the year.

Congratulations!!
