I never wanted one. I think it’s a more common desire among guys who are into cars.

Most beautiful watch in the world, hands down. Maybe just maybe, that is why there is so much hype!

I’ve tried to stay mostly objective here. And I realize eye of the beholder, etc…

But the Daytona isn’t “hands down” the most beautiful watch in the world. I think even most of the superfans here would admit that.

Make the hands black, I’d pay RRP.

I do think it's that good. Because long before the hype, the Daytona was the first Rolex I ever bought.

I like all the sports models but 1) I think the Daytona is the best looking; and 2) I love cars and the whole history of the watch. So I definitely want it. Which leads to point 3) I can’t get allocated one and refuse to pay 100% premium. But nothing else changes, so it just becomes a watch I endlessly would love to own but never do. Guess I’m not the only one!

I've said this before, I love the Daytona design, proportions and overall esthetic. I just can't get past the size.

Does everyone really like the Daytona this much?

I've got two I like a lot. Why I like them is their relative uniqueness in comparison to the stainless models. Also, I like chronos a lot but I'm not really a fan of the Omega/Swatch Moon Watch / Moonswatch. The issue for me is robustness and water resistance which imho Rolex reigns supreme in.

Same here. Bought my first Rolex in the mid 1980’s. Our long time AD has had a few available Daytonas over the years. I have tried them on and they don’t work for me.

I don't own a Daytona, but yea, I think it's that good.

It's the ultimate watch, for (almost) any occasion. It's a great size too. I prefer smaller watches, but I find the Daytona very comfortable.

I don't need one. I'm not on the list for one. But I would certainly buy one and wear it often!

Well I don't care about hype at all, but it was rumored that starting in the 90's rolex stopped advertising for this model and that made it more desirable *♂️

But why I like the daytona really boils down to a few things, first for me is the 4130 movement which is one of the finest automatic chronograph movements ever made. I also love the case size, despite my other love affair with the sub its gotten rather large and looks somewhat large on my wrist where the daytona fits perfectly. I love the daytona dial and its subdials, and I really like all things racing and cars. Lastly I feel like its a under the radar model in the wild, this is a bit of a surprise(considering its rolex's most hyped watch) but it doesn't have all the classic rolex design language like the cyclops and coin edge bezel like a sub or gmt has. I like being a bit low key and if worn with a strap it is even harder to identify as a rolex.

Despite all the likes I still dislike a few things about this watch. I really dislike the pcls, and the dial despite looking great is also somewhat difficult to read in certain situations(so love hate relationship with the dial). But really it comes down to what you like, don't let instagram or some person on a watch forum say what to like or not like, it just comes down to your personal choice.

I do find the Platinum one quite fetching. But unless there is a significant change in my circumstances, the price makes it unobtainable.

Pure hype imo. Why should it cost more than a Speedmaster or a Zenith? Also compare Daytona grey market price to other alternatives and it looks crazy overpriced if you take the crown off it

I enjoy the one I have a lot. I don’t wear it as much as the DayDate but it certainly has its place.

Hype, meh…I won’t argue that it is overhyped in some circles, but it’s hyped for a reason I guess. Is it a good reason? Not likely, but it’s a damn fine timepiece either way and few would argue that.

I think this model and configuration is in the top three of the whole current catalog, just my opinion.

I could maybe do without the polished center links, this thing sure is shiny but they work together well with the dial and bezel, which are also quite shiny. As silly as this might sound having said that, I think it’s still subdued enough to wear everyday.

All comparable models by Rolex are more expensive vs other brands. Subs are 2x as much as the Seamaster, for example.

Never been a fan of the Daytona or chronographs in general. Way too much going on the dial. JMHO.

This the first time I’ve heard of Padi not caring for the Daytona......😏

I love mine. It's a cool watch and a great daily. Currently on a month long vacation and it's the only watch that I brought.

Since "the Italian time" end 80/90ies the daytona hype started and i dont see a reason for what it will end.

Just maybe give me a 41mm Daytona! W&W?
