When it comes to nicknames people can use them or not, I don't care but I feel like it's the people that don't own the watch call it with the most ridiculous nickname like Batgirl, or Starbucks. Mostly out of jealousy to make fun of the watch. Everyone I know what a BLNR on Jubilee calls it a Batman. I have a LV Sub and call it the Kermit cause it shares the exact same colours as the 5 digit colours. Renaming a model cause it has a different bracelet or ceramic bezel makes no sense to me.

Nicknames like Pepsi, Coke etc… are great. Most newer ones are getting too silly.

You refer to the watch by reference number rather than it’s name. And you just like to tell people what watch you’re wearing randomly!

I didn't vote - as the poll presents a binary option, for or against. I'm not in love with many of them-but on the other hand, the nicknames can "speed" discussion/recognition of a reference. As much as I love these watches, I'd prefer not to be caught around many-cranking out numerical reference numbers. Again, I don't have a strong response either way; many of the nicknames are fairly silly to me-but I don't lie awake at night lamenting the existence of them.

It’s weird to me that grown men give a crap - you know because 6 numbers just roll of the tongue lol (for the older references with less not as bad)

Judging people for not using the freaking reference numbers is some of the lamest nerdiest elitist crap I’ve seen TBH - like take breath and enjoy life lol…..

I’m good either way - nick names are fine, so is being super specific with the numbers

Relax, have fun, enjoy life

And therein lies the motive of the thread. To coax comments from even those who’d least likely voice an opinion

People can call them want they want. I could care less. But honestly, some of these names are....... well stupid. A blue dial 41 date just is enough of a description to narrow it down for me. It would seem to make more sense to reference a watch just like the manufacturer labeled it in there catalogs. After all, does not the creator of the watch entitled to call it what they want.

It surprises me that some people get so upset at something so seemingly trivial. I don't get triggered by nicknames.

Starting off the year, right!

Ummm, I'm sorry but that doesn't really make much sense. Your tolerance is measured by the length of time a reference has had a nickname?

Nicknames such as the hulk and Kermit have been around for over a decade. So God willing if you live to be 120 years old, you'll have many years of encountering the madness without negative reactions... Let's check back in about 10 or 15 years?

I don't mind a few of the "originals" (Pepsi, Root beer, Kermit) but it has become so ridiculously forced it is just silly....or sickening, which ever you prefer.

TRF 2022 - my AD called, they have the new GOO GOO GA GA with Sprinkles, I don't want it but it's a good investment, should I buy it?

Isn’t it our fault? These new nicknames are created here on this forum. I really don’t care either way, but the Instagram names start here.

Would love to know more about those astrophysics nicknames

It's just so cringy. I have to call it out.

I'm sorry man, that never happened. There's no Goo goo, Gaga or anything like it.

The ones that feel forced never stuck. They come and they are shut down pretty quick. The ones that are adopted by the community, and recognized by Rolex itself, yeah, they work. You, as well as a few other TRF members, are in the ( bitter) minority.

Be well.

It seems that the poll results show that the majority of people are not fans of the nicknames given to the watches.

In my personal opinion, some of the nicknames, such as "coke," "pepsi," and "kermit," make sense due to their color associations. However, others, such as "batgirl," "green lantern," "black panther," and "bluesy," do not seem to fit and are unnecessary.

At the end of the day, though, these nicknames have become a distraction from the watches themselves and have caused unnecessary division among people, which is why i voted that i don't like them.

Talking about sense the only factor with names like Hulk or Kermit is the colour green,so why not call them simply the green insert sub and green dial sub.

Easier than remembering model numbers. I know nicknames are silly, but if that’s the only thing that irks ya… you are doing ok.

I can give it take them and don’t take a watch name seriously as other things are far more important to me .. what I would say is it all is a bit of fun !

So far, It’s not looking too good for the nicknames at just under 70% rejection. We can’t yet call a landslide, mind. Let’s see how the vote ends up when other members return to the forum this week after the holidays.

Too fanboy for me.

If it's a visual representation/shorthand it doesn't bother me but the cutesy names seem just too cool for school.

It's not just watches. Some people called Hasselblad cameras, Hassys etc etc. Yuck.
