I’d make the trade.
It’s not a marriage. You can try it out for a while. It’s not going to tank in value. If you do regret it or want to try something else it will be very easy to trade into your next watch. Go ahead.

Had both, have neither. I miss the 5164 more. Certainly money aside, I much prefer ss Pepsi and 5164 vs just the blro meteorite. I know I’m getting older but man, couldn’t read that thing

That would be my main issue with the meteorite dial.....it is hard to read.
However, if I would part with such a watch I would try to get the best deal out of it and that would not be getting a hugely overpriced steel Patek with a rubber band.

I would get a SS GMT (Pepsi/Batman) and a Sub Starbucks (and still have money for a nice vacation)....or a mighty Day-Date.

The BLRO meteorite is special, but the 5164 is more functional. The BLRO is more like an ornament on the wrist - exquisite to look at, but I find it hard to read when I tried it. The 5164 on the other hand is more dull with the all black appearance, but it’s really easy to set the dual time zone function if you are on the move frequently.

(By the way, to Duey, it’s a travel time Patek. The Msrp is $43k, same as the GMT meteorite).

This is a hard one. Precious metal with meteorite dial on an iconic Rolex vs best watch in the industry (Patek) with incredible finishing, an amazing movement and complication (travel time) and such a comfortable under the radar watch.

I’d pick based on what else is in your collection.
If I trade, I’d still need to top up about 15k usd for the pp.

I know man, trading WG for SS sounds stupid, I acknowledge that, but just so it’s PP, wanted to try owning one haha

At the moment this meteorite is the only watch I have.

I will definitely not trade a meteorite GMT into an over-rated steel Patek.....and also the Aquanut line is never my cup of tea; however, a Nautilus GMT+Chrono is another story

How did you get the GMT? Was it at retail?

I’m surprised the meteorite is your only watch, that’s quite a piece to be your only one. Personally that’s also one heck of a watch to daily, personally I’d find it too much in a number of situations. I always like to wear a watch, so if I’m doing something like hanging the Christmas lights or fixing something, I don’t exactly want to be wearing a $40k piece.

I’m also quite sentimental, and have never sold a piece I’ve gotten. With that said I also don’t buy on the secondary market.

If you’re a one watch guy, and you can use the travel time complication, I’d get the 5164. It’s going to be way more comfortable to daily, flies better under the radar as a daily, but still an incredible piece. If you got the GMT at retail and there’s some sentimental aspect, I’d hold onto it and either add a stainless piece to daily, or just play the waiting game and see if you can get the 5164 at retail.

As a collector, the BLRO meteorite is a great watch to have.

As a daily wearer, one watch only like you mentioned you have, the 5164 would be my choice.

For me it depends what your plans are after this watch.

Both great watches though.

your GMT and 15k......that's around 60-65K for an Aquanaut. I think this is bad deal no matter how you look at it. Maybe try sell your watch and negotiate with cash in hand.

If you just want to own a Patek, I suggest you get a modern Calatrava for 20k. Look up Patek 5127, for example.

For me I don't find Aquanauts very nice looking so just on that alone I wouldn't do the trade. Keep the GMT.

I have a 5167 on rubber (and also own the stainless steel bracelet so exchange those 2 or 3x a year … but a PM Rolex plus meteorite is most rare and unique . The weight!

Aquanauts are nice watches. Patek is important to have one if you are a collector of sorts, but stealth lightweight. My guess you will
miss the Rolex the minute you do the trade.

I am not a huge fan of the Aquanaut so I would not make that trade. People seem to love it though.

Go with your gut

I really like both watches, but I would not make the trade. Prices notwithstanding.

The GMT is trading below $50k now on some groups, which is amazing to me given the relative rarity. I remember when it was at about $120k at the peak of crazy.

Exactly that.
And it will likely get discontinued come watches and wonders in a few months. After which you you probably be kicking yourself.

Let me think about this, for a second…..Bottom line: The Patek is ugly, and the Meteorite is a special one of a kind watch, with a dial that’s made from something FROM OUTER SPACE, that’s billions of years old. Come on! It’s a no brainer. Keep the Meteorite!
