The YM is more robust but the Patek is finer in other aspects

Aquanaut takes this easily.

The Aquanaut 5167 bores the hell out of me. I owned one I. 2017 before the watch market went nuts and bought it at a 20% discount from retail from my AD. The Aquanaut was NEVER a sought after or desirable watch by any metric until people realize they couldn’t get a Nautilis, and then they looked for alternatives.

if I understood correctly the author prefers the Daytona but criticizes the too much literature on the dial of the latter. So in summary, he prefers the sober and monochrome side of the YM42 in white gold. I can't understand why this watch is

In white metals, Patek everyday and twice on sunday. If it was the red gold YM, the answer might be different.

Patel will have higher resale value. Rolex is much nicer watch (never liked the aquanaut)

Exactly what he said. Not a fan of either. If I had to choose, I do prefer the aesthetic of any Rolex over any Patek. I just don’t find anything about that Patek, or any other, visually interesting.

For me…if I we’re choosing between these two, it would depend on what I have currently in my collection.
If I was Rolex heavy, probably go PP. Equal mix of both, I’d lean YM.
If this were the 5164 PP, no question I’d go Patek. Aesthetically between these two particular watches, I think the YM is the better of the two IMO.

Your choice, always found the Patek ugly.

My preference would be Rolex.
Please consider the cost of ownership from a service and repair cost point of view. When purchased from an AD the warranty is five years from Rolex and I believe only two years from Patek

You need to inspect it in person if you haven’t. The movement is objectively better decorated and since it has a display back you can actually see it. The 5167 is very thin and light, it’s a totally different thing than any Rolex.

The watches aren’t really comparable in my opinion. They’re so different it doesn’t make sense.

I disagree my 1999 aqua performed just as good as my 16613 under the same wearing conditions.

Generally I'm not a Patek fan but in this comparison I'd go Aquanaut all the way and wouldn't think twice about it.

Yep. The hands are awkward. The font used for the numbers is inelegant.

The Aquanaut truly one of the most overhyped watches out there.

Note that I LOVE the Nautilus and would wear it every day for the rest of my life I just think its little brother is entirely forgettable.

Counterpoint
The 5167 hands are extraordinarily legible…far more so than the competition. (And the 5711 for that matter)
The font is also legible and clear
The watch is elegant as it is not oversized or overly thick.
The 5167 looks great on a variety of straps.
The dial has a different looks in different lights and angles, this is fun.
Both can be worn in water.

The aquanaut has few if any real competitors that would be its equal in a side by side comparison

both keep time just fine and have strong history of reliability.

That yachtmaster is a great watch and I could see owning both. Really can’t go wrong between the two.
It might just come down to the aquanaut is easier to wear as it is thinner and lighter.

Buy the Patek, sell it, and buy the Rolex with the proceeds.

I had a 5167a about five years ago and sold it in about four months. It had an incredibly flimsy feel to it. I just could not understand the value proposition.
