Agree, the pushers are a little suspect when it comes to water sports which is one reason why I went 5711 over 5712. That said, I have been swimming, sailing, and paddling with a 60m rated IWC Mark XV for 20 years no problem. Of course any water damage there would have been on a different scale compared to getting a Patek movement soaked.

IWC seems to rate their stuff differently, heck they say their 30m watches can go in the pool. Anecdotal but my 5711 tested at 70m only after a few years. Id feel comfortable with 5712 in a pool but prob not much more than that even tho patek says surface swimming is fine.

The 5726 also has pushers and is rated 120m.
I dive (not more than 10m) with the 5712, as well as the 5740, and never had any problem. |

Wow congrats on fantastic collection of sport and dressy Pateks!
As a fellow Canadian were you able to go through the AD route or did u go grey? My experience here with AD's is that they don't have the supply to open their doors to new customers so I went grey with my first Patek. |

5811
Based on your Patek collection, you already have covered a 240 caliber, an automatic chronograph and you own two superb manual chronographs with rattrapante and perpetual calendar. Although I can understand why 5740 might be tempting, it would add another 240 with perpetual module and in my opinion 5811 would be a better complement to your collection. Not advice, just observations.

I am fortunate to have family abroad so I don’t need to deal with the Canadian ADs. You are correct that supply is limited in Canada and there are not many opportunities to start a relationship. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

5811G or 5740G
After much deliberation I decided to go with the 5740! When I tried both watches on it was tough but in the end the 5740 won out. The dial and the fact that it is a QP in such a thin case were the deciding factors. Thanks to everyone for their input and recommendations. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

5811G all day! The 5740 is so busy and I'm like you, I have two perpetual calendars (5970R and 5271P) that look way more elegant than sticking that complication into a sports piece. 5811G is the way to go to add some subtle elegance to the lineup and spend the extra cash on another watch. What's better than one amazing watch? Two amazing watches ;)
A lot of folks will tell you get the 5740 cuz they're looking at price and complication but the 5740 doesn't move fast for the ADs. Everyone and their mom wants a 5811G and it is much much harder to get whereas the 5740 is the easier pickup down the line for sure due to the higher retail price. My AD told me a 5740 is much easier and the 5811G has a ridiculous line of high spenders. 5740 might be the unique complication but the 5811 is definitely the harder to get piece.

5740 hands down. Only complaint is the price and based on your current collection I would assume that is a nonissue. Congrats in advance!

I have to retract my previous statements and eat my words. Boy was I wrong about this. I recently tried on both of these pieces and the 5811G is a huge disappointment (atleast for me). Not only is it uncomfortable at the 41mm size but for some reason it's just dead looking even with the new "bluer" dial. I tried it on and it was heavy, bulky and looked like it had no life to it. Sure some pictures show glimpses of a better blue but those are just glimpses. After trying it on I realized the 5711 was just the better option between the two just wish they had a better more vibrant blue dial. Enter the 5740g. I used to think it looked cluttered but it's just right, the blue dial on it is quite possibly the best that Patek has created. It looks amazing from almost all angles. It fits just right at the 40mm size and it is super comfy all around. Oh and yes it is an amazing complication inside of a nautilus! (Stating the obvious here lol) So yes again, I have to eat my previous words and after having tried them both on, the 5740g is the clear winner between the two. Congrats on making the right decision between the two. I'm getting a 5740g for myself very soon and will share pics once it arrives.
