I’ll second an ebike - emtb in my case and, even though I’m getting older, I can ride up things I couldn’t do 20 years ago.

I’m normally not a fan of connected home electronics but got a “Meater” meat thermometer as a gift and it’s transformed our Sunday Roasts - much smarter than a normal thermometer and we’ve had pretty perfect results with it. Never thought I’d need my phone to cook a roast dinner!

A Breville electric tea kettle. The most used appliance in our home. We use it all day long for brewing tea. (Cold brewed coffee is in the fridge).

- Apple TV 4k on every TV, with a pair of homepod minis (medium high tech)

Works good, looks good, sounds good. Airplay laptop to TV instantly for group discussions. Doorbell and door lock/unlock notifications pop up discreetly. Control with iPhone. Acts as HomeKit hub and repeater. Everything works the same at both homes.

I even take one with me if we travel to one place over five days.

- iCloud (medium high tech)

OK, for quite a long time years ago... it did NOT just work. Now it just works. Every device is up to date on everything.

- Standardize on one battery powered garage tool (medium tech)

For me, it's Ryobi 18v OnePlus but I do not think it matters. They just need to be all the SAME!

Drill, driver, impact, vac, blower, vacuum, small pressure washer... ALL same battery and charger. Not dragging a cord reduces MANY tasks to trivial.

- Spices (low tech)

Variety six pack Cholula Hot Sauce and spice caddy daddy... I'm a novice with flavor, but I'm enjoying meals more and I think I'm eating less!!!

HA! Nothing wrong with you, Brian, me too. I haven't had a microwave for almost 10 years. No need, as I don't eat frozen food.

I use my electric kettle more than anything. I also have a multi-function Breville convection oven. Aside from the oven and refrigerator, that's it when it comes to electronics on a regular basis.

I use a hand grinder and AeroPress for coffee. I go manual where I can.

Butt washer & sous vide

Butt washer & sous vide are my two favorite purchases. It’s nice to join the squeaky clean butt club and I love using my sous vide on cheap cuts of meat

Last Summer my husband was riding his bicycle to the Baskin-Robbins store a mile from our house, to get some ice cream for us. He never made it to the store because he was hit by a car. Rushed to the ER in an ambulance, emergency trauma surgery, etc., etc. When he was able to come home, he wasn't allowed to climb stairs, so he had to sleep downstairs. Well, he had to do everything downstairs. A person can only have so much stuff within an arm's reach, so before he was discharged from the hospital, one of the things I ordered from Amazon were the "grabber reachers." We have them all over the house now because they are great. Most of them are 34 inches long, but the 21 inch length grabber is great to keep in the car, for when you drop something on the floor (or it rolls off the seat) on the other side and need to get it.

We quite often batch-cook and freeze things like stews, curries, and pasta sauces. But mostly our microwave gets used for re-heating coffee.

I am so sorry to hear about that. I hope he is doing better now.

I started dating my wife when she was 17. I was 23. We met at work.

Back then, the HR department let us computer programmers smoke cigarettes at our desk all day and date the 17 year old interns. Today, I’d get fired and arrested.

I am 8 days older than my wife. The Soviet Union launched Sputnik between our birthdays, so I am from the pre-space age generation, she is post-space age.

Yeah that would cause issues these days. Even I got some pushback, people telling me I'm too old for her or asking her wtf are you doing. Things have changed.

It really depends on the people though, I've met girls in their mid 20s that were still very immature and couldn't hold a conversation if their life depended on it. But this one is super smart and mature for her age, has a clear vision of what she wants to achieve.

My dad was 15 years older than my mum, it worked for them, although they did meet when my mum was nearing 30, which is obviously better. If she'd been 18 it would have been weird.

The relative age thing is weird isn't it. I can remember being 12 years old and, falling 'in love' with a girl of 15....she seemed, way too old for me then.

I'm now fast approaching 75 and my 60 year old wife, shows her love for me (and I reciprocate) every day...and is more than happy, to have enlisted the help, of our 32 year old au pair, that's been with us quite a few years now.

I'm a very, very lucky man! (I don't have my Ferrari anymore, so, it's a helluva life, but hey, somebody's gotta live it!)

I'm 63 and the sweetheart turns 50 in a few months. Up until maybe two years ago, she was still coloring her hair, and being as objective as I can be, with her hair dark brown, she looked like a woman in her early 30's.

We were no strangers to father/daughter comments.
