Bought 214270 Mk2 from AD in 2019; love it. Gifted to my grandson as his birth year watch, in care of my daughter with box/papers, put away until his 18th birthday.

Had the 39 and absolutely loved it. I prefer the larger handset and crown, as well as the AR on the 40, but for me the 39 still has it.
An IWC MK XV fills that spot in my collection now, but will certainly revisit the explorer at some point in one iteration or another. |

I preferred a new 40mm than a preowned 39. The balance of the entire watch is better. Except for the text on the dial. You made the right choice.

Had both, hard to really notice a huge difference. The 214270 had a matte dial which was much better than the dial on the 40, IMO.
