GB, on a lighter note, it's fair to say that most 'truck owners' have little to no interest in the thing and I'd venture to guess that the majority that did buy one fall in line with Williams statement.

That or you’re just out of touch with reality. Most truck owners aren’t hauling horses and pulling 5th wheels to Montana. They are making runs to Home Depot and Starbucks for their lattes. This was never meant to be a work vehicle. It’s a toy for rich people. I just think there’s better toys for what they are charging.

I don't like big cars so this isn't for me but I remember the Ford Sierra coming out and it got panned for it's looks .

Now it's the cybertruck's turn. It's futuristic and many are not forward looking types (as seen here) harking bak to the good old days and refuse to see the future of anything. Saying things like "I'd never drive an EV" etc paints youself into a corner without any comprehension on what the future may bring.

Irrespective of looks Tesla have moved vehicles on in every respect. From concept to production. Of course not everything is perfect but nor are the competition , yet they get none of the hate.

IMHO Musk is the best thing that's happened to Technology (and to America) in decades. He has pretty much singlehandedly moved the world on in several completely different areas of technology. (Don't let your political views cloud your judgement here) The capture of that spacecraft was beyond amazing. My moment of the year technology wise
You should rejoice he is moving technologies on rather than *bah humbug* everything he does.

Before you say"he didn't do it singlehandedly," nor did Ford Mercedes Porsche etc etc. but they were the vision drive guts and determination to put their idea's into metal

*My Christmas reference* Merry Christmas whatever you drive!

I was enthusiastic early like GB, thinking it wouldn’t be quite as ridiculous as the prototype, and have the specs offered at a modest price.
Then it was more ridiculous, less capable, far more expensive, and has some “issues”.
So that’s a no.
I might like a loaded up R3X. That might happen, exceeding expectations, and at the price predicted. Small and fun but capable, like an old rally car. Let’s go!

Drove one a while back. Such a fantastic truck. A blend of a traditional ICE and EV. I would go for the refreshed model.

I should clarify that I am interested in learning more about them and potentially interested in getting one but keeping the trucks I have for actual truck stuff. Rivian would just be daily to work and back if we go that route.

It's cool to look at, but the craftsmanship, bed utility, outward visibility, and other issues would keep me from everbuying one. Musk is an optimist and thinks he can deliver 3 years behind schedule , 50% over price target and somehow be outselling the F-150 by next year. That's not happening. By 2026 most who are still interested in them will have one and there will be a half dozen better executed electric trucks available. It's the Pontiac Fiero of EV's.

Seen a few in our neighborhood pretty unique looking. Do love them when wrapped in Matte Black.

We have a Rivi R1S, which is a EV. Still can't get over the power and torque these things have. Will smoke most the Twin Turbo V8s I have had from AMG and M.

Then there is the issue of the looks. I can’t imagine pulling up with that to a meeting or to get the kids from school. It’s too cartoonish. My wife would be too embarrassed to have it in our driveway. Even if I wrapped it black, it’s still ugly. And yes, that’s kind of what makes it cool. But I’m not that guy. I didn’t take reservation on it from the day it was announced. I also canceled my Hummer EV pickup reservation. Instead I chose something that gets me 1000 miles on a full tank that I can keep for a decade and not have to worry about battery degradation or the host of other issues.

But the cybertruck sure is an amazing vehicle. It’s just not for me.
Amazing vehicle, it is not! It sounds like an awful vehicle based on reliability reports from owners and the value proposition.

Uhh yes. This is the reality. Unbelievable how this has turned into a hype vehicle.

I saw quite a few Rivians in California, beautiful vehicle and I hope they're going to be available here in EU soon

Don’t understand why Cybertruck or EV’s in general trigger so many people. It’s weird.

Yeah, it's certainly strange. I suspect, if the Cybertruck was $30k, there would be a lot fewer staunch critics.

I think it’s a question of changing habits…. With an EV, one leaves one’s house always at full (and after a cheap fill-up at home). For regular day to day, one never needs to go to a service station, as one can “fill up” again at home (saving time and money). If one needs to charge during a long drive away from home, most new EVs go from 10% to 80% in 20-25 minutes. Yes, a bit longer than filling a gas tank, but after 300 miles, maybe a 20-minute break to grab a coffee or go the restrooms doesn’t hurt (and one probably does that anyway with a gas-powered car…. But instead of just plugging in and going to the rest area, one has to first stand at the car and fill it with gas and likely get dirty/smelly hands).

I don’t have a problem with EVs. But if someone says, everyone must buy an EV, and we’re going to force car manufacturers to stop making ICE vehicles, then that’s a problem.

If EVs are so great, then people will prefer them over time. Let the free market work itself out.

But unlike many on this forum, I really like the Cyber Truck. I think it’s pretty cool looking.

Yep, I hate to say it like this, but a person who has never owned one has an invalid opinion on the matter. I can say with 100% certainty that ICE car owners spend more time at the pump than I spend at charging stations. That being said, EVs are not for everyone. Should you be forced to switch over? Absolutely not. Should you form a negative opinion about them because they're not for you? Absolutely not. But getting back to the Cybertruck, if you hate it, don't buy it. No need to get your blood pressure up.

A big constraint with EVs—that is often overlooked—is the large number of families that don’t have garages and driveways. Lots of folks in big cities and suburbs park on the street.

Not everyone has a 3 car garage and a 100 foot driveway like people on TRF.

So pumping gas is a helluva lot easier for them than their getting their EVs a full charge.

Sure, again, they're not for everyone. The rationale is akin to people getting all bent out of shape, having strong opinions that gas dryers are stupid, because their apartments only have electrical outlets. For some reason, when it comes to EVs, a lot of people seem to project their particular situation to the rest of the world...which is invalid. I will concede, that it is unintelligent to buy an appliance that you cannot plug up, whether it be for laundry or transportation.

True, but within the three-car garage there's only space for one car, maybe two with a stacker. Jet skis, two-person fishing kayak, a couple paddleboards.... that garage fills up frightening fast!

Pretty much all of them 'round 'ere have very cool wraps.

It’s amazing what they call a “3 car garage” these days.
