Yes, I stand by my original post still. Any US AD that’s still an AD gets some Pepsi’s.

Sooner or later, there will be a pepsi where the blue is actually blue, and the red is actually red.

I am sure that last years price for this was around the same, not much difference. So, buying now with the future unsure about the Pepsi is a smart move. Good call!

I don’t think it is getting discontinued but this is a perfectly acceptable hedge.

Note sure I'd want that, I'm drawn to the muted colours of the current ceramic insert, I was never keen on the bold bright blue/red of the historic aluminium bezel inserts.

He even offered me an off catalogue rainbow Yacht Master but I said no. I’m probably the only idiot that would turn down an OC Rolex but bedazzled watches are not my thing so I was never going to wear it. This is all to say that we have an amazing friendship based in trust and the watches are just one part of it. I’m quite respectful of all that so I don’t ask for everything, but the things I do ask for he will put me first or second in line for. He has done so for every other watch I’ve asked so there’s no reason he wouldn’t have given me a Pepsi if he had gotten one. It’s just a relatively small store. For example they have only gotten one yellow gold, green dial day date 40 since it was released, and he gave it to me, and they still haven’t see one of the new Platonas which I’m dying for. I guess one never knows for sure but I’m pretty confident he’s being very honest with me, especially cause he knows that it’s not that I will take it badly if he got one in and gave it to someone that’s been waiting longer than me. I may be spoiled, but I’m not entitled. :)
Somewhat similar with my AD (minus the true friendship part, we’re more like like-minded watch enthusiasts and have a business relationship built on mutual trust and respect) and I have no reason to believe they’re lying to me. According to them, they see way more steel Daytonas than Pepsis. They think there is definitely a production issue with the bezel (specifically the red ceramic).

I know this is not any groundbreaking news but rather another data point supporting the scarcity argument.

I know the local AD owner well. I heard the opposite. I could have had a Pepsi but went for the BLNR. I can’t get the Daytona until 2028. They get very few SS Daytonas, and they are the biggest Rolex AD here.

OK, they get more SS Daytona’s than Pepsi’s. I will buy that. But at least they get Pepsi’s.
As far as this production issue with the Pepsi bezel, I call BS to that. They have been making the ceramic red/blue bezel for years, why the production problem now? I think some watch dealers started this rumor, and I guess if you say it enough people start to believe it.

Congrats to the OP! As others have stated, you made the right choice.

I agree with you. I prefer the darker colors of the current version that remind me of the original Bakelite 6542. Gives more of a vintage “ comic book” vibe which i like.

I’m close to doing the same. I’ve been trying to get one through an AD for a few years and have been fine waiting. I’ve set a milestone anniversary this year as the end point in my search. If one of the ADs I’ve used in the past come through, great. If not, I’m done wasting days it’s not on my wrist and will find an acceptable market value for the watch I want.

Fortunately one of the ADs was able to find the watch my wife wanted so at least one was retail pricing.

I think the problem could be that they’ve always had a lot of waste (let’s say for every bezel that is flawless/passes QC, they have to make 10) and are just doing fewer overall now.

I'll never understand why they seem to have gotten it right with the WG BLRO and cant just replicate it for the SS BLRO

Have to say my colors look excellent. Possibly it’s just certain years and variances in the process but I have zero complaints

Rumor around this time last year was that it was going to get discontinued, and of course it didn't. Although there hasn't been much chatter here about it, I have no idea if it will get discontinued in a couple of weeks, so I just decided to bite the bullet and cut to to the chase by buying a complete 2024 unworn one grey. Not the way I usually do things but I didn't want to take the chance that they discontinue it and it doubles in price. I normally enjoy and lean in to the process and the wait for the watches I desire most, but I figure life is too short to sweat a Pepsi.

So this is more of a hedge I guess ... if I doesn't get discontinued my AD will eventually get me one and I'll sell this one, and if does get discontinued at least I'll have one at a pre-discontinuation price. It makes sense in my head.

Makes total sense, congratulations!

I really don’t see the Pepsi ever getting discontinued. Too iconic of a model for Rolex. Updated with a newer model… yes. Beautiful watch congrats.

Well done and congrats on your great looking Pepsi. You did the right thing to go grey, it's worth the premium to not wait. Plus the resale value is higher, so you're not really loosing much. Enjoy and wear it in good health. Cheers!

If you want it bad enough, you’ll tell yourself just about anything to justify it. I’ve done it with the Pepsi and new Daytona. No regrets! Life’s short, enjoy what you can afford. Congrats!!
