Rather Enjoyable for a Merlot in the mid $20 range, as I prefer Cabs...

i don't mind the flavors of merlot, but i don't like that weird mouth feel that almost all of them have. what do you say about this one?

also, our local costco had this on sale ($37 after $12 rebate). not as good as their private reserve cab, but only 1/3 the cost.

One of my favorites and a go-to!!They make some great wines.

I always keep a spot for Sequoia Grove in the cellar -- their Cambium is phenomenal as well.

They also make a Cabernet based port - if you like those --- may be worth a try!!

TGIF! Let's start the weekend off right with a little Frank Family 2013 Lewis Vineyard Reserve Chardonnay. Absolutely LOVE this wine and the winery! Recommend It Highly.

The wine is straw yellow in color. On the nose expresses slow roasted pears and honeysuckle flowers. On the palate, the wine is bright and full bodied, with loads of Meyer lemon and fresh apricot flavors.

Next! 2014 Family Select Chardonnay. Very nice but Reserve was Awesome!

Winemaker Notes

This is the debut vintage of our Family Select Chardonnay, a wine sourced entirely from our family’s sustainably farmed estate-owned vineyards in Oakville and Carneros. It is rare to find Chardonnay in Oakville, but a few blocks in our Crossroads Vineyard offer a slightly cooler microclimate well-suited to the varietal and over the years we have resisted the temptation to graft these fully mature vines over to Cabernet Sauvignon.

In this carefully composed wine, the rich, ripe Oakville fruit (75%) beautifully complements the bright minerality of the Chardonnay we grow in our Carneros vineyard (25%). Fermented and aged predominantly in new French oak barrels with twenty-five percent malolactic fermentation, the wine opens with ample notes of ripe mango and lychee, followed by succulent stone fruit, Asian pear and a note of subtle caramel. Twice-monthly lees stirring gives this Chardonnay a rich and complex mouthfeel, yet it retains a fresh underlying liquid minerality that brings a radiant snap to the finish.

Thanks! Drank very nicely, even for what's considered a not stellar vintage. Brioche, lemon curd and hazelnut notes were all very harmonious. Got 2 more bottles left, and will hold for awhile longer.

I had that a month ago, and its solid. Eugène Aimé Salon started that vineyard solely to make wine for his lunch club. I'm glad he started selling it to the public. Both it and its sister label Delamotte are delicious.

I know everyone is nuts about Krug, but having tried them both I'd prioritize the Salon first.

Krug is cool, and I get what they're doing with all the blending and whatnot, but Charles Krug was a German perfectionist and (IMHO) its made with German precision engineering. Personally, I prefer a bottle of Dom and saving $500. Of course, if you get a chance to taste the Clos d'Ambonnay, jump on it right after inviting me over.

2006 Silver Oak Alexander Valley 100% Cab...should go nice with the grilled lamb chops...had a bottle with Danny83, and GerardoG at the GTG, and it was drinking lovely...round 2 tonight!
