I know everybody thinks they're cute, but to me, unfortunately, they look like a small New York City rat. Sorry about that, Lisa.

I was trying to be nice, Raf. I put it as gently as I could. I'm sure they're cute - if you like cute rats. If they just didn't have that long pointed snout, the pointy ears, the beady eyes, and the claw-like feet, they would very cute.

Pfft. You two need some possum edu-ma-cation. They're quite benign little fellas. The girls have already given this one a name, and they're delighted to have found someone to eat their leftover broccoli!

I didn't say they weren't nice. I just think they look like New York City rats.

Ugh... my dad used to eat them. Growing up on a farm during the Depression, they ate squirrels, rabbits, possums... whatever they could catch.

He said they're really greasy.

Aw, Jim - you remembered! She's turning 12 today. Someone needs to make a comic book character sort of like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde... hang on to your hats -- it's the mysterious, mood-swinging, sweet-n-sour, hormone-raging Adolescent Girl.

How fun. This is such an interesting stage of parenting. The only advice I can think of is to embroider a pillow reading "Pick Your Battles."

Look! Coming home from school! It's a kid! It's a woman! No, it's

ADOLESCENT GIRL!

Crankier than a badger with a hangnail!
Funnier than your favorite comedian, until you laugh at the wrong time, in which case "IT'S NOT FUNNY!" Even if it was funny yesterday!
Loving and sweet, until she wakes up fully!
Able to melt small siblings with a single glare!
Able to leap tall piles of dirty clothes, unseen by her "invisible-vision!"
Able to give new understanding to the words "where did we go wrong?"
Able to roll eyes, slam doors and scream "IT'S NOT FAIR!" if asked to eat vegetables!

Bum-pa-da! ADOLESCENT GIRL!

You might soon discover how embarrassing your presence is when she's among her peers (the famous "Moooommmmm!"). Transitory.
