Not a bad baseline rule set at all -- I've been opening some of mine the last several months and they have all been drinking phenomenally -- but no doubt will get better.

Which for me...is directly applicable to my purchase strategy -- I usually (even if just on a recommendation) will purchase at least 2-3 bottles -- one to perhaps try now (or soon) --- one to age --- and see how it matures over time -- and one to maybe share if it is special...

But that's just me!!!!

Honestly -- I will open up nearly ANY bottle in my cellar --- anytime if I get the itch, or someone hasn't had a particular one...

Cheers!

It's funny because 07 was a great Piedmont vintage as well but the Nebbiolo rule is about 20-30 years, those wines will most likely out live me. I only bought a handful of 2010 Piedmont wines because what's the point LOL

You can never go wrong with Silver Oak. Been one of my favorite since I started drinking wine almost 20 years ago.

I am heading to the Piedmont next summer on a bike tour. No I do not feel so bad about not being able to bring a bunch of wines back.

Having this before we head out for tea at Marco Pierre Whites restaurant.

A special Aussie wine that evokes happy memories.

Rockfords sparkling Shiraz.

Happy Friday to TRF! Enjoying a Merlot this evening. Picked up several bottles at Costco on Sale Only $16.99! Quite nice and would recommend to others, especially at this price.

Stags' Leap Winery Merlot 2013
Napa Valley, California

Winemaker's Notes

Generous aromas of dark plum and bright red fruit, with enticing hints of clove and cinnamon throughout. Juicy red fruit flavors are effortlessly integrated with notes of caramel and savory spice that contribute depth to the polished palate. Smooth, velvety tannins and a refined texture give this Merlot a distinct level of sophistication while still being very approachable in its early years.

Was in the mood last night for something Sangria and found this nice one from Portugal.
Pretty good for a bottled blend. ....

Had the Pol Roger 2002 (not the Winston Churchill) last night and honestly I didn't find it had much going on, while it was nice and bready, with a hint of white pepper and mango sweetness. I feel that the Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label is better, I think for similar money I would prefer it or the Andre Clouett 1911. Makes me more interested in the vintage Veuve Cliquot and La Grand Dame. Trying to explore some of the other vintage Champagnes, have yet to try anything from Krug or the Bollinger 007, those will probably be the areas that I look to next. For now however my favourite champagne and the one I will be waiting for the next good champagne vintage to be available in (2008 & 2009) will be the Tattinger Comtes de Champagne. Not sure if I will bother with the Winston Churchill but will certainly grab a bottle of Cristal when the 2008 vintage becomes available, to try.

Tonight we toasted to the loss of one of the founding members of Napa Valley wineries, Mr. Donn Chappellet, with an 04 Chappellet Cabernet bearing his name, served with slow smoked beef short ribs. Rest in peace Donn and prayers to the Chappellet family.

Picked up this Cabernet from Costco... JS91 - RP90

Concha y Toro Marques de Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Chile, South America

Winemaker's Notes

Marques de Casa Concha, is dark ruby red in color with luscious aromas of cherry and blackberries intertwined with cedar and smoke. These notes follow through to the palate. Tremendously concentrated flavors are revealed in firm tannins with a soft, silky texture and a lingering finish.

Enjoy this fine Cabernet Sauvignon with prime red meats, firm cheeses and other rich fare.

Memorial Day here in the States.
Forever in debt to those who allow us do enjoy all that we have!

Tried something new and pretty special here. A Pinot from Cali in honor of TRACE and his new acquisition. Was going to wait a bit to post but I think Trace's cufflinks and new grail are super cool so enjoyed this in your honor!

Arrived in London yesterday. Consumed the 2000 Henriot Cuvée des Enchatelleurs while watching my beloved Golden State Warriors close out a hard fought Western Conference Finals versus a very game Oklahoma City squad, then celebrated with a 2015 Map of the Sun sour beer from The Rare Barrel. Felt like old times popping bottles in the middle of the night, though this time it's entirely a function of the body clock still being set to Pacific time.

Got a few more bottles to plow thru before leaving.......

A 1996 Oenotheque... MOET has replaced the name "Oenotheque" with P2 (and P3) but the 1996 is the bottle to have for sure!!!

Any tasting notes?

I've had several bottles of the Henriot in the past 3 months. All have drank beautifully, with nice notes of green apple, lemon curd and limestone. Still has the structure and enough acidity to last IMO for a couple more years, but this is squarely in its prime drinking window and I wouldn't think of laying these down for much longer.

The 02 Pommery Louise has typically been more straightforward from the several bottles I've opened this year. It hasn't displayed the depth of the Henriot CdE, but IMO the Pommery Louise has a longer life ahead of it, especially if you like older champers that develop a nutty and Sauternes like quality.

Last time I had the '02 Cristal was a few New Years Eve's ago. It was still painfully young, and I vowed I'd wait awhile to uncork another one. I'll report back on how it is.

This will be the first 04 PJ Rose Belle Époque I've opened. Will also report back how it is.

As for the 96 DP Oeno, if this bottle does as well as prior bottles I've had, then you know tasting notes are a waste of time. I'm expecting something bordering between "really damn good" and great from this. Will let ya know.......
