Thanks for the pics. You look great with the Tudor, L.
You're right, the Omega specs at 39mm, but some people describe it as 40mm. The bracelet difference is something to think about...the Speedy has the classic Oyster-type band. I might like that Tudor one more. There is no real reason to be considering this purchase now...I've got other things on the near horizon...but you know how that goes. |

He's in love with his G-shock.
In actuality I think the Tudor is great. I really mean it when I say it's the ultimate useful watch. Rotatable 12 hour bezel, chronograph, date - bulletproof movement inside, style. Seriously what more could anyone want in a watch. I bought it for myself because I liked it. On the other hand the GMT was an anniversary gift from my bride. I'm committed to it. It's an heirloom. Things were different when I bought the Tudor. The idea of passing it on to a new owner is strictly financial. There are things that need to be done here and if need be the watch is something of value in the diddy bag. Also my 20 year anniversary is coming up in October and I'm sure my bride would like to celebrate it. Besides Ethan will get my GMT someday and I'm sure he knows the sentimental value of that watch, though he jokes that he'll sell it. Kids! He keeps poking the hornets nest.

Briefly changing the subject for another mini-rant:
I get an email invitation for a summer swim party for the up-and-coming 7th graders at my daughter's school, hosted by a small group of moms. It's in late July from 11am to 4pm. Sheesh! Talk about sun exposure. I really think it's irresponsible to have an event like this for kids at that time of day, when the sun's at its most damaging. Sunscreen would help, but not offer complete protection. How come people still don't know this? You'd think moms would know better. I politely declined, but am wondering if I should privately say anything to them about possibly moving it to later in the day? Nah, probably not. I wouldn't know how to do it without coming across as critical. Then again, it might be a chance to educate... |

L, your tile is just amazing. Love your bathroom. Nice to see so many original things still in use. We had to remove everything from our house. It was in sutch a bad shape
Glad to hear that you decline the invite. Having a summer party for kids in bright sun light could cause som real burns. Even if the kids have sunscreen, they can get sunburnt. I would ask if they can have the party in the afternoon. When the sun is not so hot. The tudor looks really nice. I recent bought me self an omega speedmaster. But that watch is to big, dont like it at all. Feels like iam wearing a brick on my wrist |

Heya Cec,
Which Speedmaster did you get? I'm pondering an older 39-40mm Speedy Date...is yours that type? I don't wear large watches yet so am interested in your experience. Also considering the Tudor. Lisa, the sun thing is a concern, for sure. It has lifelong effects, as we all know now. They used to let us fry...not good. |

Also glad you understand about the sun exposure thing. I'm really freaky about it. My husband's sister had a melanoma removed from her back last year, and both my parents and inlaws have had skin cancers removed. People just don't understand that they need to protect their skin, and their kids' skin! Do you think you could get used to the Omega's size and weight? I bet it looks great on you! |

Aw, thank you, Shannon. Glad your hubby's doing well. Enjoy your weekend. I'm getting my 8 year old back this afternoon after a three day camping/field trip for the entire third grade. A huge adventure, as she's only been away from home before for the occasional sleepover. I've really missed her.

Some garden updates for ya'll... soon we'll have tomatoes - but I cheated and bought the plant instead of starting from seed.
Hydrangea... this is its third year and is looking pretty good. I added aluminum sulfate (I think it's called?) to help the blue color; otherwise they'd be pink due to our soil. The Magnolia's putting out some gorgeous huge flowers, too... love the lemony smell. My favorite little flower: |

More pics - the season's first black swallowtail caterpillar munching on the fennel. It looks like bird poo... I sure wouldn't eat it. You can see one of the swallowtail eggs slightly below the caterpillar - looks like a yellow bead.
Some macros of the color variations in the hydrangea... |

I agree that the larger, sporty watches are best for casual/weekend wearing. Do you have a very small wrist, Cecelia? I wish mine was a little bigger... so I would have a little more flexibility in choice of watches without removing permanent links. |

Thanks! When we bought the house 5 years ago the tree was a MAJOR selling point. A neighbor told us it was reportedly there before the house was even built. If that's true, the tree is at least 75 years old.
Your roses are beautiful! |

Beautiful hydrangea! I like them because they bloom all summer. My azalea bush and peonies only seem to last a week. I was in the yard too on Sunday, we had a nice day here. Planted some dahlias and geraniums. Also have a little rose garden in the backyard. Your daughter is a cutie pie, and she has her bunny. My daughter is starting to carry a stuffed animal around too. We took a stuffed kitty and a turtle to Home Depot the other day ;) Here's my dahlia shot.....i'm debating on using it as my avatar. |

Shannon, your dahlias are so pretty. I tried a pot of them last summer but they died - you have a much better touch!
Is your DJ a 31mm? That is a nice size on you. I'm quite partial to those blue dials, too. That pic would make a dandy avatar. |

Isn't it funny how watches on the wrist photograph? I would not have guessed this was 26mm! It would be interesting to see wrist shots of your new and old DJs side by side. Do you notice a big difference in how they feel and look on the wrist?
Your daughter is three, right? Does she have a favorite stuffed animal? All of my girls love stuffed animals - not dolls so much (except Barbies with the younger two) - and we have 40,000 of them in the house (at last count). Yes, I understand about Home Depot and bringing the friends along - we always grab a cart even if it's just a tiny thing I'm after - because you gotta have those giant carts for setting up the stuffed animal play arena. And it buys Mom a lot of time. |

Lisa That's funny, I just posted the two watches in that other thread! I feel my 26mm is quite small compared to my other watches. It is light as a feather, which is great for work. My husband purchased it for my 10 years ago before larger watches were worn by women. Yes, my DD is 3. She is partial to her stuffed kitties. I didn't play with dolls too much when I was a little girl, mostly stuffed animals. And, I find she is the same. I have bought her Dora and other dolls, but I guess since she has a real 10 month old to torment, she doesn't need them She once wore swim goggles to Home Depot, it just cracked me up! You know they go thru phases where they want to dress up and leave the house looking a wreck; makes me laugh. |

Gorgeous garden pics, all. Thanks for sharing them! I still can't get over how much farther along you are. We're eating salad greens, true, and I do have blooming iris and bachelor buttons, but nothing showy yet. When my Siberian iris come out I'll post a pic.
The hydrangeas are spectacular, gosh. Is that multiple colors on one big bush? How's that work...are all the color possibilities in the plant's cellular structure, and environmental factors determine the colors? And those sunny dahlias, Shannon--so fresh looking. I haven't tried them here. They're so refined. Love the watch pics too. |
