My kids have named it, but I haven't. It's just "little ducky" to me. I have no idea about gender, either. Assuming it is a mallard, once they get their adult plumage you can tell, as the males have the vibrant greenish/blue head and neck much of the year. The hens are more drab. Also found that the females say "QUACK!" while the males have more of a raspy, quiet "mrap, mrap," sound. But for now, we just got peeps.

Not sure how long to keep him or her. I think we'll all know when the time is right. I feel pretty confident he's getting a good diet and good care from us for now.

Joker....that was the coolest version of Yellow ever! It must be so cool to have musical talent... I can only imagine!
That's one lucky little duck to be serenaded so beautifully.

Isn't that the truth? I told little ducky he already has a song played and dedicated just for him.

(And we're all pretty lucky that Wes treated us to his talent... don't tell him but it turns me all mushy to hear him play!)

You know, he's not as fluffy as I expected. He's more... silky, especially on his breast and head. His down is dense, I guess for good water proof-idity. And his feet just kill me - like little rubber mats.

We let him try some swimming today - got a tub of warm water for him and gently lowered him into it while he was standing on my hands. Once the water covered his feet he SUDDENLY DOVE UNDER THE SURFACE and scooted in a mad circle, his little flipper feet kicking furiously. He looked like a frog! Then up he popped like a cork, and he bobbed around happily, preening and wriggling his tail. Good grief, he knew exactly what to do... he took to the water... like a duck takes to water.

I about fell over from shock, though!

They are! And a little big for his body, it seems... he stands with one overlapping the other sometimes.

I wonder if the overlapping feet are to enable the waddle. This is just too cute for words.

Well, I'd probably feed you long enough to get your bike here so you could fly home.

Some pics from our morning outing. The pick up and snuggle stage passed quickly - he doesn't like to be held and the girls are learning not to touch him to hopefully help preserve his instincts. We do have to help him up the patio steps, though - and he does like to sit on our feet.

The girls quack and flap and he follows.

This is how most of the pics turn out.

Sensational pics! Thanks for taking the time to share the journey. Being able to observe a wild thing at this range is such a privilege.

I bet the girls will remember these days with Ducky always.

Thanks, that comment means a lot. I gotta get them little scale/arpeggio runs better though, more practise.

Duck just came back inside from a swim. He had a great time swimming and dabbling for bits of lettuce, cucumber and parsley (and a few gnats who happened to land in the water) and is now resting and warming up under the heat lamp.

He's completely underwater in this pic.

Diver down!

Looking for bits of cucumber at the bottom.

Does this not sound like a children's book writing itself?? Are the girls writers, by any chance?

Hey, Shannon. I haven't gotten any fresh pics today - been kinda crazy with my daughter's birthday today... and my oldest is acting awful and the littlest is picking on the middle one... sheesh!

I do have a pic from yesterday that was kind of funny - you can sort of get an idea of how fast he dives!

And what I've been reading about ducklings being really messy is proving to be true - his little aquarium looks something like... like a blender's gone off inside it. We have to clean it out twice a day at least!

Good morning coffee shop people,
I'm a new member looking for a friendly place to "hang out" with folks who share my passion for watches, as there is nobody in my own world who does at present.
I've been on the new members bored for a couple of days, but i'm wondering if its not a "man's world" on this rolex forum, as myself and the only other new female member have a very low average of replies compared to all the new dudes posting...
before joining this forum, I've been gleaning so much useful info. that helped me with my rolex purchase, and with how to cope with all the little glitches that plague new owners of automatic watches....so a big thank you to you all who so passionately share your experiences etc!
Cheers!

Hi Michelle! Welcome! Nice to have another gal onboard here! I'd highly recommend you post in the 'General' section as that's where most of the action takes place. Don't be put off by the fewer number of female members....us gals should stick together!
