Its a tough decision Lisa, my heart goes out to you. how old is your little guy? If he's still young enough, he might be able to integrate with the other little ones...aghhh its a tough decision!!! 'cause on the other hand you could keep a tab on him if he went to one of the "pond" women...aghhhhh!

They do have a variety of ducklings at the moment, some even younger than 5 days, so it's a matter of our little guy integrating with them successfully. I hope he would be able to - not sure I could bear it if they didn't accept him and pecked him! They do release their animals to the wild, so we'd never really know what would become of him.
Lisa, you are going to have a sad day the day your duckling leaves for the "facility".....as there are going to be four females moping around the house and yard. I bet Dave pulls a double that day!!!

I know, it's really a dilemma. When my daughter came home with the egg, I really never believed we'd have a live duckling to worry about. Now there are some important decisions to make... he was hatched Monday. If you have the time or inclination, you can follow the entire story here of how he came to be. It starts at around May 15 in the previous posts.

The "pond with people nearby" situation really sounds ideal for him, Michelle. He could be as wild as he wanted to be and migrate/leave whenever, or he could stick around on his terms. After all, the mallards at our downtown river/gardens are "wild," but they'll still swim right up to you for food. As my 12 year old says, "The only predators there are the baby bunnies." (several wild cottontail babies are hanging around there at the moment!) Thing is, if we went that route we're committed to keeping him until he's old enough to be on his own there... and I don't have a place to keep him safe from neighborhood cats and dogs. Heh, I can see us taking him to the downtown gardens each evening and letting him hang around, then he'd follow us back to the car when it was time to go home. Maybe eventually he would decide to stay there.

Everyone's doing great, Greg. Leah just got back in her house after romping around my daughter's room. Now she's having a hay snack. (our bunny, for you new folks.)

Thanks Carl, although I love blues/jazz piano, always found it quite tricky and never played to a good standard. I seem to mostly play pop/film. I'll see what I can do, but don't hold your breath.

Yep cool to play together one day.

Hi Lisa,
Ya know what Kid? you've got a good heart so trust in it when you make a decision- he'll be fine. Given his amazing beginning in life, he is a duck with a destiny !!!

Good morning coffee shop people, and Happy Father's day to dads, husbands, grandpas, and any guy who has an honorary-dad status!
Being new here, I've had to do some catching up on the coffee shop talk, so I had a chance last eve to go back a few pages on this thread....and I found that this coffee shop is full of interesting and inspiring people! Gardeners, Farmers,Bikers, Musicians, Wild-Life Rescuers, Proud Moms with cute kid pics, not to mention some great watch advice....wow!
Shannon and Lisa and J-green thumbs up to you ladies! Some heavenly pictures there.
Bill from RI- your bike is amazing- my sister and her hubby ride- I'll show them your pics!
Wes your youtube music gives this coffeshop a real dimensional feel-its not just a thread, but truly a place to gather; Now Carl- you get yourself and your guitar on youtube so we can enjoy more live music. I wonder if there is a way for you and Wes to combine youtube videos? so you don't have to cross the pond to play together?? maybe thats a question to post somewhere a computer wiz lurks...
The sense of sadness that pervades this forum over the loss of the JJ character, is deeply felt by me... he touched a lot of lives!
Have a great day ya'll

Michelle,

It seems like you've been a member of this forum for only a couple of days but when I read your posts I get the feeling that you've been here for such a longer time! You've created yourself an account and right away you lurked the forums and spoke to people as if you already knew them! I love that good attitude of yours!

That was a great post my friend! I hope you keep your good mood and I especially hope to keep reading you for a long time!

P.S.: I'm not sure about combining videos but there's probably a way. Otherwise I'll see if Lisa wants to hear The Baby Duck Blues...

Baby Duck Blues... sounds good, Carl.

Here's pics from this morning. He's growing fast. Hard to believe, as he seems to poop twice as much as he eats.

Lisa, I know you love the little guy! I would bring him to the rehab center. That way he can be around other ducklings. The longer you keep him the more imprinted he becomes on you. The harder it will be for him when he has to leave. The more imprinted on humans, the more dangerous for him to live in the wild....

It is hard, but the best thing for the duck. I msg'd you my cell if you need to talk.

Nice rendition Carl ..well done..! -
.
The duckling is cute, Lisa - no doubt - It'll be hard to give him 'up' - but probably better to the 2 of you in the long run.
We're animal lovers too.. and our lovebird 'Jat' arrived on our rooftop 1 hot August day during a BBQ 7+ yrs ago and has been with us since.
Sometimes you just cant let go...!!

After a reassuring visit with our own Kaya (who is a certified wildlife rehabilitor) I plan on taking our little guy to the wildlife center in the next couple of days.

Wow - wonder how your lovebird found his way to you. If only these critters could talk.

I think I have an idea for carl & wes- but, we on the receiving end will need two laptops.....do you know where I'm going with this? So, what if you two musical dudes pick a song...wes plays it on piano, carl plays it on guitar, (you'll have to coordinate the rythmn or tempo or whatever) ; then you both post your youtube renditions, and we, on our two laptops play the song simultaneously......
Lisa- my brainwave for you is about a book on your ducky adventure- there is someplace online where you can submit your pics and put text with them, and they will send it back in a hardcover book! Maybe try Walmart? I've seen them done before!Cant remember from where though
You know the hardest part of being in the coffeeshop, is leaving it to do my mundane chores... My two needy children are crying for Sunday brunch to be made, and I have all my whacky family coming over for Father's day in a few hours....If you read my Father's Day Treat post you know what we're having...so, chow for now....

The wildlife center will surely take care of the little one....
.
Have no idea how he found us...but I think he (or she) was pretty tired..and it was a warm day...saw some people on the patio and figured this was a good place to be.... - We didnt know at 1st he was a lovebird until my wife got online and checked it out.. At the time, we also had a cat, who came to us and was on our patio when we came home from a holiday. It was a Sunday..so we called her 'Sunday' .. and 2 dogs...to boot.
I told my wife - 'No way' are we keeping the cat, with 2 dogs.. and we had Sunday for about 10yrs.. and I said the same thing when the bird arrived..and that was 7+ yrs ago.. So I guess you know who won those decissions....

This is a good idea Michelle , but it's no good having some great blues piano/guitar and no vocal. So what's your singing voice like? I think me and Carl can only agree if you lay down the vocals for our track.

I think another idea would be to do some editing on those versions and put them in a single video but I think we're getting somewhere with this idea...

Have a great night with your family Michelle!

Wes and Carl!!!!!! My singing sister is here, and she thinks there is a possibility of doing a "virtual band" using youtube, and she would love to provide the vocals-unlike me, she is not shy.
If you have a minute, google WikiHow: how to make a youtube collaboration music video.

And I need to let TRF know - Kaya has the coolest accent. I'd say Cajun, but Kaya, you may need to set me straight. It sure isn't Okie.

We've been discussing little duck with our daughters. I think they'll be okay parting with him, understanding that it is the best way to give him every chance for the life he was meant to have.
