Lisa, sorry to hear of your added woes to taking care of your Mom.....sometimes when others step in they mean well put end up screwing things up even more. How are you and the girls doing this summer? How's your garden doing and I bet the climbing roses are doing great. Here, the Japanese Beetles hatched out and started feeding this past Thursday doing considerable damage to my Climbing Hydrangea. I had to borrow a ladder from a neighbor(who is a roofer) so I could spray up at the roofline with Sevin to get the buggers off my plant(they feasted on all the new growth). I did set up the Beetle Trap as well and am emptying it twice a day right now!!!

No worries Lisa. It's good that it's back on the road. Parts rotating. Fluids moving around etc. The biggest worry is that your mom doesn't get in and decide to take a drive. Seeing as it was her pride and joy she'll probably want to use it. When it wasn't running she probably didn't think much about driving the Taurus, as it was your Father's car.
Just speculating of course.
Fact is, if it makes her happy and keeps her from complaining then good. Your BIL had good intentions or was just tired of the noise, or both. Maybe he was just glad to get out into the garage for a while. When I visited my MIL I'd have done anything for a few minutes away. LOL

Hi, Cecilia. Have you returned from your cottage in the country? Hope you enjoyed the peace and solitude.

The journey withy our little ducky was amazing - we miss him and think about him every day. I just remind myself and the girls that he is living his life as a wild duck is supposed to. We were so lucky to have had the privilege of giving him a chance in this world, and lucky that he turned out okay.

Lisa, that was one lucky duck that you and the girls found her and hatched her and gave her life for a week before turning him/she/it over to the authorities. you have a special kindness in your heart and your girls are learning to be special as well.....does Dave still escape to the basement or does he show some interest.....finally???

Animal Planet, TRF style. It was wonderful to be witness, a little, to Lisa's and the girls' adventure.

Hot as blazes here, and I have to go be smart in public on the weekend at a city festival with lots of concrete to reflect the baking heat...ugh. But there will be interesting musicians, craftspeople, and street food.

Anyhow, the car WILL have to be sold eventually. If Mom has to go to a nursing home at some point, I'm sure we'll sell it then. Just can't say whether that will be in three months, or three years.
Hey Lisa, I can sympathize with your frustrations; Having a sick/elderly parent does create a whole lot of stress in a family, and some family members handle it differently then others; By the sounds of it you are your family's "primary"contact with your mom, so you are most in sync with what her needs are right now; and its frustrating when another family member swoops in and upsets the apple cart! And guess who's left to pick up the pieces- you!

Hey J, hope you enjoy your urban weekend! Find some air conditioning somewhere!
Is this the US memorial day weekend? For us it is the canada day long weekend
; We are headed up to the east side of Georgian Bay for our annual camping trip; I think we are in for hot temperatures as well,(probably not as hot as you have); we'll be in the water most of the weekend....I don't know if I'll be swimming with my new watch...??

Anyway, Happy Long Weekend to all

Morning all.

Michelle, it's almost a US holiday. The upcoming big one is July 4, so this weekend is kind of an advance celebration time for that in some communities.

Camping sounds fun, and water especially so! My poor dogs are hiding under bushes and also staying flat in the kitchen to deal with this onset of very hot weather. I leave classical music on for them; they like it!

Pass that coffeepot this way!

Sounds refreshing for summer!

Best coffee I've ever had was in Rome and Tobago. In Rome it was just the little stovetop Bialetti espresso pot; in Tobago it was so good because it's a coffee-growing country (also a cacao bean place, so the cake was TDF.)

Michelle, do the kids enjoy your camping trips too? My daughter used to just camp out on the lawn with her friends during summer and watch the stars.

Michelle, I would love to receive a pound a week but I sure do not want to work at one.....dealing with customers is really a pain-in-the-tush!!!

My favorite coffees are 100% Blue Mountain from Jamaica and 100% Kona from Hawaii.....

My kids have grown up camping! We've always camped with 3 other families, on this particular weekend, since all the kids were babies with sandy diapers.
Now, twenty years later, most of those kids, my daughter included, have sworn off sleeping on the ground...; maybe someday they will want to revisit their outdoor roots...
My son is still "on board"; he is bringing 2 other friends to hang out with.
I found some old pics of where we go- I'll try posting them.

So, I'm trying photo bucket again.....the pics are about 6 years old; the girls are doing their annual pyjama cliff jump on our last day of camping- a tradition they upheld for many subsequent years

Yep Leo, customer service is a tough game. Kate, is much happier at Starbucks, as her last two jobs were at a grocery store, and a Subway.
Apparently,(or so my kids insist), my hubby and I are the meanest parents, as we make our kids help pay for their hobbies and cell phone plans...

Michelle, you are totally correct in your assessment... and sorry you are speaking from experience. SO many families have to go through this, and it does create a lot of stress and upheaval... luckily my sister and I have been pretty much in agreement about all aspects of Mom's care. Spouses can be excellent sources of support and advice, but a wise spouse will know not to get too involved unless asked. It's just better that way.

Very cool. Love camping. Haven't been in years (since Ethan's sports took over our lives).

J, sounds like you're doing a presentation or seminar... hoe all goes well and you survive the heat.

PS - I got my pyramid candle holders and place setting of Fiesta's Flamingo color. Love it! It does have a slight coral hue to it; not such a bright candy pink as I might have imagined.

i know, Lisa, I'm lucky in that my hubby is just staying as a quiet pillar of support. Our upheaval mostly comes from my youngest sister, who can not handle the stress of my dad's illness; she has just recently dumped a huge load(I'm calling a spade a spade here folks!)of her 30 year old issues, onto my Mom's poor head....Mom can't take any more stress or pressure..now she is starting to crumble....
So I went and sent a verbal ballistic missile at my little sister...and now we are definately not communicating! I'm so mad at her- and I truly don't know what to do about it...

Love the rock jump photos! And that cool moving water...yes! Lucky younguns.

Lisa, you're right, I'm a talking head this weekend. Except for the weather it's a fun gig, and there will be a bunch of old friends to reconnect with. One of the artists I'm working with I've known for a very long time. The others are Latino craftspeople/performers I haven't met, and know a little too little about their art forms, and a couple of them aren't English speakers (a translator will be on hand)...but this is the fun part for me. I get to learn along with the visitors.

It's a run of high 90s days here and no rain, no rain. It's getting so bad that the city areas are restricting watering of lawns/gardens.

--
Lisa I'm following your Mom and sibs discussion but have little to contribute. We should leave such things to dogs, who have natural sensitivity to situations and people. What happened to instinctual social smarts in humans?

Have you been here?

It's on my list, though probably not this year.

What do you do J? This weekend sounds as if it is a yearly tradition for you.
Folks, how do you post just the part of the quote you want to use, instead of the whole thing??
