19 is a great run! Try not to mourn, as our dogs become sad for no other reason than WE are sad, but rather, celebrate it. A dog, NO DOG, gets to 19 years old with the best of love and care. Congratulations for what you've given, and for what you've received.

Teddy is growing up. He is now 8 months old and weighs just over 13 lbs. His coat is more Cocker Spaniel than Poodle, so he always looks a bit unkempt, despite being brushed a lot:


He loves to run laps outside, and likes to play with our cat Tommy, who isn’t always in the mood. To Tommy’s credit, he is fairly patient with him. He seems to know he’s a youngster. He loves car rides, which is great, because we travel a lot. He is a joy!

First was witnessed by my mom. I was hoping it was just a random occurrence. Nugget was adopted from a shelter in 2017, and years ago I randomly found his brother on Instagram. Well we've had the seizures under control with the help of phenobarbital since October, but over the past couple months, Nugget's dropped from 28lbs to 21. He's recently become quite lethargic, and isn't eating his food (but still loves his treats). Vet did blood work and an ultrasound last week with no surprises. Wifey got pretty upset last night. The not-knowing is not awesome. Dropping him off at the vet tomorrow morning with some food so that they can observe him. There have been no significant changes in his daily routine that would suggest anything.

When he was initially put on phenobarbital, vet suggested 2x16.2mg pills twice a day. Immediate change in Nugget's personality. On my own, I cut it in half, to 1x16.2mg twice a day in December. He came back around and we haven't had any more seizures. I'm under the impression that the blood work would've shown any issues related to the phenobarbital use, and the results came back normal. We'll see what happens tomorrow...

Meeting with vet at 4:30 to discuss with wifey, because my head is going at about 100mph right now and I can't really think straight.

Looked up some research papers/ articles that linked anticonvulsants with anemia and thrombocytopenia in dogs, cats, and humans...but it seems rare and I'm not a vet, nor dr. Will mention it when talking to vet, though.

You're doing everything you can..and Dr's too...
but we all know there's only so much than can be done. It's a hard thing to come to terms with.

Damn Don, my heart breaks to hear this. She was a very lucky girl and I’m sure you gave her the best 12 years of her life. She knew she was loved and she certainly loved you. Keep your chin up and remember all the good memories. I hope your pain is replaced with happiness that you gave such a beautiful girl an amazing and long life full of love. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Jesus, today was the wrong day to browse TRF.

I’m so sorry to hear he has crossed the rainbow bridge.

Take comfort in the fact you made the decision out of love because you didn’t want to see a family member in pain and suffering. He knows you and the rest of his family loved him.

I hope your pain is replaced with happiness knowing you all were his world and gave him a great life.

Oh no that’s really terrible news.

I was reading your posts and hoping for a different t turn of events. Please accept a big virtual hug. Hardest thing ever, for sure, and so very young. Life is very unfair sometimes.

I too lost my Betty nearly two years ago, and coming here and writing about my feelings helped. Crying helped. Speaking to family and friends help. Don’t hold it in.
