Well if this particular one is available here I've never heard about it but it does sound like those chocolate milk cans full of vitamins my girlfriend takes in the morning. Myself prefers the good ol' peanut butter toasts though (sometimes I eat them with Brie cheese or Jalapeno - add the wavy thingy on the n please... - cheese but it's mostly peanut butter in the morning).

And yes, there seem to be more options available all the time! Most of the time I find myself cooking a meal for my guys and then just eating plain protein, veggies and fruit myself. It just kind of takes the thinking/planning out of it. It IS challenging to cook gluten free, I totally agree!

Ugh!
I tried gluten free for 4 months in an effort to see if it would help my GI issues. Sadly it didn't.
I can sure sympathize with all the effort it requires just to have a variety of meals and snacks.

Hey Carl, have you ever tried peanut butter and cheese together on toast? Seriously, it's yummy! (Don't knock it until you tried it folks...)

I can sympathize with the GI issues...the gluten free thing did not help me much either, happily I might add, as I love grains in my diet!
Whats been working very well for me, is really limiting my sugar intake, and not just deserts, but keeping an eye on the sugar count in foods;
Also, when enjoying anything bread-y, I stay away from anything white, as that stuff quickly converts to sugar....
Anyway, no matter what kind of diet you are on,I find that "cheat" days are necessary, in order keep a long term commitment to the diet. I will NEVER give up pizza, chocolate or wine- three things that make life worth living

You know, I am not a fussy man and I enjoy tasting new recipes and new food (I don't always like it but I'll give it a try). However, I have to say that I'm a bit difficult when it comes to mixing things together, therefore I'm not sure I'll be willing to do that...

If I ever get the guts to do it I'll let you know though.

Funny, I used to work in two grocery stores and I don't remember it. Although it is possible (and it is actually a great possibility) that I have just forgot about it...

I think that peanut butter and cheese toast paved the way for my enjoyment of grits and cheese and butter....

Hmmm.... I dunno, girl.... You sure it wasn't too much wine that paved the way?!

I have heard of peanut butter and bacon, but have never tried it. Maybe when I'm feeling very brave I'll try PB and cheese.

Hey, you know what? I HAVE had the little packaged cheese cracker sandwiches with peanut butter inside. Those ARE quite good.

yep, I think wine has paved the way for many a thing in my life....all good of course!
If you do try PB and cheese- use cheddar....medium sharp cheddar...

This reminded me of a college friend from...hmm I dunno across the pond somewhere... that made me try Vegamite (?). Oh my. That stuff should be illegal. It's inedible. Is that an English, South African or Aussie food? I use the term food lightly.

Eeeeks, if you didn't like that, then don't try Marmite!!! You'll run for the hills. I think it's English, though I grew up eating it in South Africa.

a slice of hot apple pie with a chunk of sharp,(old) cheddar cheese on the side.....heavenly! This is another mennonite influence on me;

Wow, lots of 'cheese on the side' dishes!

I prefer my apple pie a la mode! LOL!

Now, I will say that what's quite yummy is a slice of toast with some strawberry jam and a slice of cheddar on top! Hope I'm not grossing anyone out! Have always loved this combo!

I 've heard of marmite......: Apparently the only way you can possibly eat it is if you were fed it as an infant and grew up with it...

Sounds good. I like to get Whole Foods' cheese bread, toast a thick slice of it and spread jam on top. Doesn't even have to be strawberry!

If I had said "English biscuits" all along, I could of saved a lot of confusion.

Jammie Dodger is a type of English biscuit. Shortbread and Jam. It even has a nice heart shape on top.

Allrighty, boys. I just got back from visiting two grocery stores but struck out on the particular brand Wes and Karis recommended. Most of the imported cookies were from Belgium, France or Germany. Not one from England - Walker's Shortbread from Scotland was the closest they had, but since I've tried it before (it's easy to find) I decided on a couple of kinds I'd never tried.

Here's what I brought home. Have you heard of these? They're both from Germany. They're quite good (have sampled both already), but do you think they taste anything like the digestives?

I cooked tongue once. It was really just too gross, layin' there in the pot like that.

Edit - you had asked whether a gluten free diet helped my husband's headaches. Eh, not really. He says he feels generally a little better all around, though. He did drop about 15 pounds pretty quickly.

I found a recipe for homemade Jammy Dodgers, also known as Imperial cookies...
ingredients:
1 cup butter
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 cups flour
1/2 cup jam- strawberry, raspberry....whatever
1 cup icing (confectioners) sugar
2 tsp water as needed

method:
-in a big bowl cream together butter and 1/2 cup gran. sugar
- add flour mx into a big ball
- on floured surface roll out dough to 1/4 inch thick
-cut into round shapes
-put on ungreased cookie sheet, bake 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden
-cool on a rack
-in a small bowl mix 1/2 cup confectioners sugar and water- to make an icing
-spread jam on one cookie; top with another cookie; ice the top and decorate with a maraschino cherry piece

-enjoy with a nice cup of tea
