The Official Formula One Thread!

This was the youngest podium in F1. In fact, averaging all the ages together = 23 years, 5 months and 14 days

2019 Brazil = 23 years, 8 months and 23 days, which was the previous record for youth on the top 3 steps.

This was chaotic, unprecedented 2nd standing restart in modern era, penalties for closed pit lane violations, etc.

As for Merc, the only weakness was Bottas at the start and then not being able to come to the front after the red flag. Hamilton smoked the field coming from DFL to 7th - not a weak drive there.

All-in-all, this was great for Gasly due to perfect timing by the team in boxing just before the red flag. Fortune gives to some and takes from others.

Now about next weekend - again in Italy...

Mercedes has a weakness. Not enough to dethrone the king, but they eat tires and can’t handle the heat. Bodes well for when the rules change in 22.
Great race today! It’s a shame the fans weren’t there for the race. The Tifosi would have gone bananas.

Fun race to watch, and great to see the podium variety too.

That's why they run the races.

Very fun race to watch. I don’t really follow Gasly but I have to say it felt pretty rewarding watching him come out with the victory. Especially after dropping from red bull last season.

I loved watching Hamilton work through the field. 3 or 4 more laps and he is on the podium. Crazy race.

They certainly have to manage the tire wear and have overcome it with the speed they have over the others. Pit stop strategy has kept it from causing bigger problems.

Even the new “party mode” ban didn’t faze them in Qually.

The only problem I see is that Mercedes is still clearly the strongest and most reliable power unit, and those are remaining completely unchanged for the new regs.

Well. That’s it for Perez at Racing point this season.

Vettel has been awful for a couple seasons now, I'd rather Perez or Hulk.

Vettel is probably thinking “Ferrari has been awful for a couple of seasons, I’d rather have a year old Mercedes”.

It'll be something if the Ferrari is still dog sh!t and the Aston Martin RP is basically a 2020 copy of Mercedes. Vettel will be destroying both Ferrari's if Stroll is able to do it right now.

2nd in the drivers standings in 2017 and 2018 and the only person not driving a Mercedes to lead the WDC at any time in the Hybrid Era is awful I guess.

Hulkenberg has never won a race. Granted, that’s a team thing most of the time, but he’s hard to move into a spot vs vettel.

That second RB seat is a poison chalice.

All focus on Max with first dibs on upgrades / strategy etc. He wouldn’t survive a second stint.

What about works Renault? They need a Frenchman to go alongside Alonso and he’s stronger than Ocon who hasn’t really delivered on the early promise.

I’ve never understood the politics surrounding Ocon in F1 all of the announcers say he’s so promising constantly, and a few teams claim to see his potential too. I’ve never seen him produce anything solid though other than a lot of drama surrounding the accidents he’s somehow involved in consistently. Almost Maldonado esque, I haven’t look into it but I really wonder what sponsorships follow him.

When my wife or I cut one another off, we say "Don't Vettel me!" Am not convinced he is a development driver like Schumacher, Alonso, Senna, Hamilton, etc., and a development driver is what a team usually desires imho.

Awful may be a bit strong, this is F1 after all, 20 best drivers in the world but c'mon he has made so many mistakes, and been outdriven by Leclerc and Danny Ric.

Just think there are quite a few better choices now. Let's hope he beats Stroll otherwise his legacy really will be tarnished.

I turned on an F1 race and NASCAR broke out. I really enjoyed it except the end was dull and Ferrari sucked.

As for today's qualifying session in Russia, Max managed to split the Mercs.

Race start will be tense, as HAM starts on Softs, while Max is on the mediums.

One on side, I'm disappointed on Albon's pace, simply outrageous with the second best car on the grid.

Not sure what’s going on with Albon. He had a lot of early promise, but he has been pretty off pace considering the car he has lately.
