I have been needing a new pair of boots and just pulled the trigger on some trickers. Picked up a pair of stow country boots in burgundy with the commando sole.

With a sale and the pound as is I was quite pleased with the price.

Still on the hunt for something in black. Clean. Cap toe at the most but require a commando sole or atleast rubber (I live in Buffalo). Open to ideas!

Shout out to dan dddrees as I spent a good amount of time reading a thread he started on styleforums on boots this AM

I plan on stopping at the BB store to see if they have any Galways in stock so I can try them on. I think the Galways for BB are on the 82 last so I'll see if it works for me or not.

I saw the ones from Mr Porter. They definitely look like they're on the 82 last.
Wes,

Sorry the Super Denim didn't work out for you. I sure hope you get the chance top try out the 82 Last soon and before you make a decision. The 82 is a great looking Last and works extremely well for a smart casual boot not that there is anything wrong with the 64 or the 202 Last. However as a personal opinion I just prefer the 82 over the 202 Last when it comes to the Galway and the 64 Last is more suited for a more country boot.

Thank you sir.

Actually it started out as part joke and also because there was no thread for just boots. Actually when starting to spend more on footwear I spent more money on my boots than shoes and then everything kind of spiraled out of control and the footwear addiction took control.

Although I don't visit it as much anymore there may actually be some suggestions in that thread that may work or you. I not sure exactly which style your looking for but I'm guessing your looking more derby versus balmorial. Unfortunately I wasn't able to quickly find anything in black although from time to time the following shoemakers will have something available. Here again I'm guessing at your price range. Personally when I think these types of boots I generally go for something with Dainite. But as far as shoemakers go for me it would be Carmina, Enzo Bonafe, or possibly Vass when it comes to mid tier shoemakers. I would include Crockett & Jones but I just can't think of anything that they would have that would meet your criteria. Alden of course would have something along these lines but personally they just wouldn't be my number one pick. I just don't personally care for their aesthetics when compared to the others.

This one was available on Carmina's website but it is a balmorial.

https://www.carminashoemaker.us/mens...lf-black-80092

Viberg has something in Black Camel but this shoemaker is more of a fashion workwear look and I doubt that is what your looking for based on your request.

I will definitely hold off until I get the chance to try on a few pairs in SF (hoping they actually have some in stock...).

I do like the country boot look and I think the 64 last would suit me well since I dress pretty casually, but I still want to check out the 82 last.

There is also the 72 last, but the toe box looks weird to me. It's kind of bulbous. The toe box on the 64, 82 and 202 all slope downwards which looks much nicer, imo.

When purchasing my boots the 72 Last wasn't an option at the time and frankly I've never paid that much attention to it nor the typical models E.G. has come out with on this Last. I forget the name of the boot but the straps and buckels just don't appeal to me much. There was a much older JL boot which used this design but because of the dimensions and pattern looked much better in my opinion.

Of the three I have I'm extremely happy I have one on the 64 Last as I said it's certainly a great option for a good country boot. I'm really happy I was also able to get it in zug in the Veldtschoen construction as this leather is perfect for that type of boot. At one time E.G. Used to sell them and a few shoes such as the Dover in Zug but you don't see that anymore and they did say they were no longer were going to do it. However I have read from time to time that E.G. Was willing to do this via an MTO. Of course there are a number of other good options of which some of these are readily stocked by a number of retailers. Some sort of CC is always available and if your able to pair that with the Veldtschoen construction which most do then this is really what this type of boot is all about in my opinion. From time to time you'll also be able to get this configuration with a shearling lined shaft. E.G. Does not line the upper and frankly this isn't something that appeals to me much. Wesley Richards typically stocks the Rosewood CC version which tends to be a favorite but there are many other versions which should also be considered to include some sort of calf and suede as well.

Love the Superdenim site. I prefer Mr. Porter because the sizes fit my skinny feet and frame better. I would like to see a link to John Lobb Chukka boots. They look so cool.

Personally I prefer either these from Gaziano & Girling or those from Saint Crispin's.

This retailer has the Ramsey in black calf and one in suede on sale in a limited number of sizes.

Hi guys. Hope you all had a nice Xmas. I was able to see the Galways at the BB store today, but did not have a chance to try them on. Based on what I saw, the boots are wonderfully made.

I will be keeping my eye out for the right pair, but I don't think it will be in smooth calf. I am afraid that they will be too dressy for me. Based on my style, I think a pair in country calf or the utah leather would be a better fit.

Wes,

I actually rock my Galways in Doak and Walnut CC on the 82 with jeans and a nice Sport Shirt. Anywhere from casual to smart casual they're real nice pairing with a number of outfits.

Agree. Love the Galway on 82 and I wear it casually quite frequently.

If you want something a little more casual, definitely look into Galways built on the 202.

Hello Dan,

Need a pair of formal shoes so just ordered a pair of Ferragamo's in their sale.

http://www.ferragamo.com/shop/en/uk/...14691233617222

They are described as Derby's but to my eye the look more like Oxfords.

What style would you say they are Dan?

It doesn't matter too much, as I like the shoe and only asking for clarification of the style.

This is a great and informative thread. I've learnt a lot and enjoyed it a lot.

Cheers and thanks to all who have contributed.

Oxfords, due to the closed lacing. Derbys are open laced shoes such as these.

Yes, that what I thought.

Strange that they've misdescribed them, unless they've put up the wrong photo.

Thanks for the reply.

My annual christmas shoe polish. Sadly I lost another pair of Church Monk shoes this year, I wore through the leather on the side after 7 or so re-soles. I have picked up at Christmas a new pair of business shoes and some new black boots. Total church's I have owned now at 15 my first pair I bought in 1996 lasted me 15 years. Mixed in with the Churchs are 3 pair of Bally (not Scribes sadly), Magli Platinum and some lovely Floris Van Bommell from the Netherlands and some had made Italians from a small boot maker. No need to comment I need shoe trees they have shoe trees I just have a habit of crushing my left toe, must be my short legs. Shoes are shown in combo's
1) Total (less a few pair of boots and the casuals including Church's boat and casual shoes)
2) Two tone Brogue's
3) The Hippo skin customs (vintage - I did not kill the hippo, I am just letting his skin live on)
4) The Suedes

Very nice. Sadly, Church is the rare brand from which I just cannot find a comfortable fit.

I have many pairs of boots, but I believe I could get by with just these two in a pinch. The Galways arrived recently, and I absolutely love them. Thorpes now have some competition for favorite boot.

I put a pair of John Lobb pebble grained penny loafers in my Mr Porter wish list, but when I went to buy it had sold out in my size. Oh well.

Absolutely fabulous, as it really doesn't get much better than these two. I think I would have to agree sir.

I think they are probably 40+ years old so I doubt it, you can get crocodile and other specialty materials on specialty order but nothing that would be endangered.

Crocodilians are heavily regulated world wide, but I don't recall seeing hippo on any lists. I know hippo is available from a number of exotic leather purveyors and thought it might be a current option for an MTO.

Hey fellas, it's been a while since anybody has posted!

Any new shoes? I have some new boots coming tomorrow night. I'll post some pics on Saturday morning.

Also, has anybody seen the new C&J website? It's pretty awesome.
