Wes, those Maldives pics are beautiful! You must have a good quality camera because all your photos are clear enough to make me feel I'm practically right there! The one pic looks like a squid attacking a shark???
Very cool!!! |

Just sharks I think, distorted in the water.
Them stingray are incredible, that was feeding time every wednesday at 8pm. We got there early and they were all waiting. God knows how they knew it was a wednesday, we went to the same spot at 8pm on other days and they weren't there. |

Wow! What amazing photos, Wes. It does look like paradise. What was it like to pet a stingray? Do they feel like cold, wet rubber?

Hi, Michelle! It wasn't bad at all! The long-winded woman didn't even speak! We spent the entire time with my daughter's teacher, and we were finished in about half an hour. Whee!
I guess they've reorganized their presentation from a few years ago, luckily. When do your kids go back to school? |

Thats great about the quiet long winded lady! maybe she has laryngitis!
I find that time and again, if I expect "the worse" , things always turn out better than I expected ! We still have a few weeks of summer holidays left- Austin goes back after Labour Day, and Kate starts her 2nd year of university on Sept. 10. Our hockey season starts this Sunday however, and that actually will keep us busier than school! (almost) |

Does your son play hockey for his school's team? I don't know a thing about hockey! But if it's comparable to our football, the high school teams have been practicing for a week or so already. |

Double session (morning and evening) soccer practice starts next week for Ethan's HS. Classes start the end of the week following Labor Day.

We don't take sports very seriously at my school (the have this philosophy of non-competitiveness, like it or not). P's volleyball practice doesn't start until the week after school starts, and they'll only get about two practices in before the first game. Sometimes I wish the school was a little more competitive - because last year P's team tied for first place despite themselves! Can't help but wonder how they would have done with a bit more assertive coaching.

Maybe HS will be more competitive. You know I'm a big fan of competitive sports for kids over 8 years old. Somewhere around my town are a few 'everyone wins' trophies with my son's name on them that he never collected because his team didn't win and he thought getting a trophy for just showing up was dumb.

I'm totally trying the pear recipe, Michelle, yum.
I'm glad someone else drinks matcha! I 'pre-whisk' it while it's dry to make the powder uber-fine before I add liquid. But sometimes I do use milk, or coconut milk. It is GREAT in smoothies, etc. You are right about the color, but you just have to have faith. lol |

High School sports in Ontario are not as big a deal as they are in the US; Austin plays AAA hockey for our town, and he actually isn't "allowed" to play on any school teams this year! His time commitment will be 5 out of 7 days a week... Every imaginable sport has a "rep" team in our town, so most kids try out for those first, and the high school teams end up taking all the kids who did not make a rep team. Quote:

Regarding matcha- the only reason I got into drinking it was because I had found a Gorgeous! hand potted matcha bowl, and wanted to use it "properly"! Now I'm hooked; I prefer it to regular green tea ! |

Anyone got advise how to politely ask your parents to move out of your house. They are driving me nuts.
My Dad heavy breathes out of his nose, I can't tune it out. I can hear it from another room. My mum watched 2 1/2 hours of soap opera's last night, Emmerdale, Coronation St and Eastenders. I can't stand soaps. I had to go to my bedroom. |

All right. All this matcha talk. I've never even heard of the stuff before but now I HAVE to find some and try it. I do like my tea very much.
Can I get it to go? Size large please. Can I order an iced matcha? Smoothie? Love smoothies but NO BLUEBERRIES - ever! Extra matcha please.

So, matcha is worth a try, but the good stuff is costly so just get a little bit; It looks like green powder, and it is not a clear liquid when you make it....word of warning- it is earthy tasting- thats why I add hot milk to mine; maybe you should get an amazing pottery matcha bowl first! Dawna and I found this to be a great incentive to acquire a taste for this stuff! |

My cousin is getting married next week, thought they were gonna go back after that. But now they have an offer on their house here, and talking about hunting for another, they can't do that from Ireland. I haven't got the heart to tell them. Maybe I just shove some cotton wool up dads nose. |

Yes, but we have our own versions as well. Geordie Shore
I like Damages, Californication, Family Guy, 2 1/2 men. So many others shown here, Mad men, CSI, The wire, list goes on. Not enough time to watch it all. I try though. |

Guys, I have some bad news to share... my mom died last night. She's had Alzheimer's for a few years, and had been living at home with caregivers coming to help her out daily. The lady coming to see her today couldn't get Mom to answer the door, so they called me and I drove over to unlock the doors and check on her. We found her in bed; she had never woken up after going to sleep last night. She'd had a bad heart but refused treatment, so we presume her heart just gave up.
Anyway, the next few days will be kind of hectic but I'll try to check in when I can. |
